Just a reminder folks : the deadline for the current round is tomorrow, so get to finishing your entries if (like me) you're a bit crap about deadlines and haven't finished yet, then mail them on to me :)

tonight's sleep quota is being eaten into to get this damned thing done.

This seems to have fallen off the map to an extent - usually by now I'd have had at least a couple of entries but, other than the Shades' entry I've not had any comic work submitted other than my own. Just for reference - who has a comic complete or near completion that they want to send in for this round?

(If nothing else I think that nips the idea of a photographic theme/starting point; I like the idea of challenges, but not if they put everyone off actually taking part!)

mine's all scanned and such, chocolate stains cleared up, title decided upon. Just have the sep's left to do, and emailing them then. So tired

Sorry bout this guys, there are 4 entries so far (and maybe one more) but due to disorganised-ness on my part, I haven't had time to update the site and won't be around for another week. I'll post up when I've done the updates.

Meanwhile, what theme shall we go for in Round 5? I think the photo theme didnt work out, so I suggest back to simple words/phrases. Starting date will be sometime in the first week of december, with a month to produce the comic (ie submissions on or around new years day).

    What say ye?

Whatever it is, let us hope it is "pun-tastic" or perhaps failing that, "phunt-tastic"!

With a deadline like that is it possible to resist a Christmas comic? Anyone who knows my work of old knows I find them impossible to resist!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

    "The Gift"

you should be shot, repeatedly, in the face, AFTER i mangle the pun queen himself.

Christmas comic could be entertaining fun, or we could run two interchangable themes, or some sort of way you COULD, if you felt you must, avoid a chrismtassy strip

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Hmmm, I like the notion of a theme that can tie into Christmas, though I still feel I'm never going to out do the Bear Christmas comic..."The Gift" sounds good so far, but keep them suggestions coming, folks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 697 ✭✭✭the Shades

Avoid a Christmassy strip? Are you mad? It's impossible even at my laziest I've felt guilty about not doing one!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

    Right.

At long bloody last, Round 5 is online. December 1st is the new starting point for Round 6, I'll post up again to confirm the theme and deadline.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Argh. With stuff and whatnot, forgot to post last week. Round 6 is underway, theme is "The Gift". Deadline is around 31st of December. Get drawing, folks!

humm. what suitably dodgy thing can I make this time...

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

I don't know, but a bastard/lovechild wrapped in christmas paper would certainly make me laugh...(hmmm, wonder if I can use that?)

dude.. I told you last week when you showed up at the door in nothing but a ribbon.. I'm not opening any presents til Christmas!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Look, it's not my fault that your present is..."perishable", shall we say. (Certainly it would be in the context of standing on a cold doorstep wearing only a bow). Your loss :P

(oh lord, like so many other things, this thread was in contact with me for but a short time and has become corrupted...)

  • Registered Users Posts: 697 ✭✭✭the Shades

I'm only reading this and already I feel dirty!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

OK. My comic is pretty much done and dusted, and I have had one other submission. :| If anyone is working on something to submit under the subject "The Gift", let me know and I'll hold off updating for a bit (as if I ever do it on time anyway :P). Otherwise, we need to start talking about the next theme.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭thumbninja

I've got one.. and is dodgy as ever.. so feel free to ignore my entry :p

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,011 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Hehe, so long as it's not as dossy as your 24-hour comic it's all good :P

As for themes....well, I went and looked at the 24 Hour comic page and got "Civilized Anger". Any other suggestions?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭thumbninja

you'd think with the (lack of) work I put in it would be done by now. but once again letting work and socialising come in the way of hobbies :p

meanwhile.. try something like this lil guy.. the random phrase generator

I got "fetid darkness" "swamps of pavement" "determined dawn"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭thumbninja

    check yer messages.

    unoriginal and lazy - it's a style choice :p

*looks worried* have I mentioned I've not done lifedrawing in 8 years?! comics are dumb anyway *skulks off*

  • Registered Users Posts: 697 ✭✭✭the Shades

*stands at the front and shuffles one foot nervously on the floor. scratches his head*

Ok so I had this idea for a story and I was all ready to go, but it tied into what I wanted to do with this years project and for it to work it would have been a flash forward because I got this really good idea that I want to use as my starting point and then I got another idea and I kept on meaning to draw it but it was only a one pager and eh... I kept distracting by my year long project and ummm... yeah so I don't have anything...

*fumbles around in his pocket and pulls out a sticky fuffy sweet*

I did find this on the floor of my Mom's car though!

    *smiles lamely*

    hehe... sorry!

    *drops head and walks off*

More to the point, sounds like the subject for the next Challenge to me. (The 'unoriginal and lazy' bit, not the 'it's a style choice' bit - just to clarify. Although ...)
