You should keep an eye on Arcade Otaku aswell, there's a bunch of AES stuff for sale there atm, you need to be registered to view this link.

Cheers mate, I'll get to that now, thank you!

Nope. There were 'legit' bootleg copies of the game (it's weird to explain but trust me it's true). That makes it even harder to track down one of the real deal. A 'legit bootleg' would be OK but you'd want to be careful on price, it's vastly inflated and some palm them off as the real deal.

A similar line can be followed with the Carnival caravan titles, especially Nexzr.

As for AES or MVS, ask the seller to open the cartridge for you and take photos of the board and chip serials. If they can't be bothered to do that for you, or question it, walk away. I recently turned down some nice MVS stuff which was likely legit, but the sellers attitude and utter horror at my request to open the cart just made me jog on.

One other tip. Read the whole advert. I ended up buying a bootleg Prehistoric Isle 2 because I skimmed the small print. The seller was at least honest about it. Many are not.

It's your cash at the end of the day. These items are expensive, nobody wants to be conned in to a bootleg copy of anything. If you're looking at something like the PAL edition of Kizuna Encounter though then a) you won the Lotto and/or b) you'd want the seller to put it in for VGA examination or travel to wherever they live and collect it in person.

Opening AES carts is a pain in the a$$ - I wouldn't risk doing it on a game I owned... well I did try to open my Last Blade 1 as there is a rattle in it, but I couldn't open it and gave up for fear of ruining a game worth over a tonne on a good day!

However, if I do go for a Garou I will take your advice and ask the owner to 'pop the lid' so to speak.

Just got Gradius Deluxe .jp and layer Section, my saturn hasn't even arrived yet so I will wait and buy food with the money until the Saturn arrives :)

For what its worth, in my opinion, the very best shooter on the Saturn is the reasonably priced Soukyugurentai. I'm sure that some will disagree, but for me its is perfect in every way - the graphics are superb, the gameplay is immensely satisfying and the difficulty is spot on. Plus the soundtrack.... oh that soundtrack.... its is unbelievably good.

I completely agree. That game is absolute amazeballs. I recorded some footage of me playing it but will save that for when I launch my vlog later this year (hopefully).

I'm still undecided between Souky and RS. They both look gorgeous, play fantastically and have two of the best soundtracks I've heard in a shmup.

I kind of slightly prefer the 2D sprites in Souky to the polygon bosses in RS. But then I haven't played RS nearly as much as Souky.

    Too hard to decide :)

Isn't the wonderful music in both games by the same person, or am I imagining things? (wouldn't be the first time!)

Pyongyang, you have a lot to answer for! :pac:

These two lovelies came this morning:

    mushifutari15.jpg

Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta (no idea how to pronounce that) is also incoming. Never heard of it before but the gameplay vid looked interesting enough.

Are these games subtitled at all? Or am I the only one here who doesn't speak Japanese? I know there's prob not a lot of story you need to know in some of the shmupy stuff...but still for options etc

You get a hybrid of both English and Japanese text. (Japanese people seem to love their menus being in English for some reason)

As Shmups don't require text at all to play really it doesn't effect gameplay.

There will be bits where you're just guessing though!

That is a luxurious pile of SHMUP smut. I applaude thee!

Congrats on the Shooting Gameside. It's a bit of a wallet breaker, and admittedly a bit pointless if you can't read Japanese, but if you're posting in this thread it really shouldn't bother you! :D

I have Vol. 2 already, my Vol. 1 is in the post along with a copy of Crimzon Clover. Looking forward to those.

    Again, great purchases mate, enjoy!

Yes but it's already out of print. You won't get it for less the eighty or nintety euro on eBay unless you're lucky!

Alas, it just seems like ebay sellers bought up a **** load of copies of it, and it explains the exaggerated pricetag it goes for.

Really is a shame when nonsense like that happens.

    It's pure profiteering.

I'll pay large sums for old games as they can be truely worth the money and it's obvious in most cases the person didn't buy to profiteer.

I'd never but a modern game at that price though. It's as bad as ticket touting.

    Also @Andrew:

The Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta is dual stick, as you can probably tell from the video :pac: It's pretty cool based on the PS3 demo. Probably not particularly cab friendly, though!

Muchi Muchi is region free afaik but rip off prices these days. Mamoru is not region free according to the seller.

Cheers dude. Vol. 1 cost me £17 incl postage from UK, not sure if that was a good or bad price though. Where can I get hold of Vol. 2 do you know?

Yeah this one might have to be played via normal controllers. Ah not to worry it was cheap enough. Just looked a bit different to the Cave shmups so thought I'd take a punt. :)

That's actually a seriously good price, most places are charging £22 plus shipping for both volumes.

I got my Vol. 2 from an eBay seller in Japan but as far as I can see they are not selling them any more, maybe sold out?

Its in HMV.jp for €11 but shipping is €15 Booo-urns!

    Loving your work. :D

As for .jp retail sites, I agree, the postage is complete plop. Amazon.jp wanted €30 to ship Shooting Gameside Vol. 1.

    Jog on son. Jog on.

Just so you guys know that ebay seller runs this online store, while the prices are still high they're a bit better than the prices on ebay.

He really should make the site look a bit better....

The prices are high but the quality of the items they sell is fantastic.

Some lovely stuff but damn the website isn't the best is right. Don't feel comfortable putting in my cc details tbh. Sooner pay an extra tenner via paypal & ebay.
To verify this connection is secure, click the right mouse button on this frame then select "Properties"

I thought exactly the same thing, there was no way I was putting credit card details through that site.

But they do accept paypal if you contact him, I've bought a few games through the site and the guy is really dead on. But considering the state of the site I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't use it.
