A new console has just been announced. Made by American company 'Infinium Labs'

Its a Broadband Only (rules us out) games on demand console.

I dunno why, but it sounds really cool to me, don't get me wrong, I'm highly sceptical and think it will flop. But just something about it, seems ballsy or something lol.

    Gaming Age news item.

Infinium Labs (warning, not 56k friendly)

I still dunno what to think, it kinda seems like a hoax.

    Infinium Labs announces The Phantom
Wonder if it'll be purple with a skull on the front...and secondly is was this article written by Lando Calrissian? (See picture)
As the article points out the area of console gaming is littered with consoles that flopped like the 3DO etc. Personally I don't fancy it's chances either:)

There are currently 32,679 retail game titles available and 418 shareware game titles and this does not include; adult, casino, sequels and new releases in past 6 months.

and its only been announced today

90% sure that its just a stripped down pc. the company was only set up in october yet they have working prototypes now? come on people give us a break. 2-3 year development time for the ps2, 2 years for the xbox, 2 for the gamecube and these boyos have one up and running in 4 months.

a pc or a hoax is my judgment.

if it does just run PC games its hard to see they can offer them for download

and the image of the controller looks as if some of the buttons have being taken from an Xbox image

also from the size of the controller the console looks about the size of a PC

They'd want to have fairly air tight security (such a thing exist?). Think of what would happen if someone managed to chip one of those yokes to run a p2p file sharing network. Free games for all and one bust Infinium Labs.

It's a stripped down PC with a broadband Gaming On Demand service behind it. Yawn.

Who in gods name would wan't to play pc games with that dodgey looking controller.

The case design is awful too.

    Yawn indeed...

The most we could hope for is that they will make console style games for it that could be easily ported over to pc. I've yet to see a decent fighter or beat em' up on the pc.

According to the site they are just annoucing their intentions, there is nothgin built. If you have a look at that picture you will see it is a crude render. The controller isn't very ergonomic and is probably something slapped together for the purposes of representation, chances are it will look nothing like that (we should hope;P)
