    I'm looking for information on the ABI 7700. Havent found anything on their websites except software updates. Specifically what's the difference between the 7500 and 7700?

    The 7500 stuff is on the webiste but the 7700 I can't find the details on. We got rid of a 7500 recently as we use a rotorgene, I think there's one in the lab next door. Seems to be just a 96well plate RT-PCR machine

    Not doing any wet work at all, just reading around the topic of fetal Rhesus typing. I've read that some labs use the ABI 7700 so I'm trying to find out more about it, like could the 7500 do the same assays. From Google images it looks like quite an 'old fashioned' machine with a larger footprint than the 7500. This link seems to say that it is just another RT-PCR instrument.

    The ABI PRISM 7700 Sequence Detection System is a fully integrated system for real-time detection of PCR (polymerase chain reaction). The system includes a built-in 96-well thermal cycler, a laser to induce fluorescence, CCD (charge-coupled device) detector. The 7700 also can simultaneously measure more than one fluorescence wavelength per well. This means that endogenous controls can be run either as parallel reactions in separate wells or within the same well as the sample (multiplex PCR).


    Judging by the 7700 manual, it's a proper old school PCR machine.

    After using an Applied Biosystems StepOne Plus, those screenshots of the software is enough to make my eyes bleed.

    Newer and better machine most likely? I doubt there's anything the 7500 can't do the 7700 could.
