Aye, I was wondering did you mean Petrucci alright.

Man, I want one of his sig guitars. Might even just get an OLP one.

There's a shop up here that does that. Has old tape delay units and stuff like that. Shame they know their stuff too well :(

    Where? And how much?

    Dundalk. Corrs country.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Outside Dundalk tbh. And not for sale. He collects all these rare guitars and amps, sticks them in a container and ships it off to America every six months.

... and then we buy them back from Chris.

    Hmmm.... I think I have a plan :D

    Don't be so stupid!

    Of course it involves monkeys!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    But can they fly???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Yes, if they know what's good for them :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

They're monkeys. Of course they don't know what's good for them!!!

Yes. Be like the sponge. Absorb.

I assume things like new(ish) strings, be in tune, have picks etc are a given?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Yeah, just pay attention, if he's good you should be able to pick things up even when he's not teaching. Just watch how he does things, how he gets around the neck, his picking technique, etc.

TBH, the first time I heard him play, I thought I was listening to Garry Moore...

I've no advice on guitar lessons but your point about monkeys, a lot of monkeys when they are sick eat particular plants that contain medicine. So they do know what's good for them. Next stop Planet of the Apes...

I traded an ancient acoustic guitar which i got as a present for a 1972 Fender Telecaster Thinline and paid some small change on top of that :D

The deal of a LIFETIME - that's still my main guitar.

    original? Sweet. Post a pic?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

There's one in the gear thread iirc. Know excatly what you want to gain from the lessons and tell him, and make sure nobody's wandering off on a tangent.

Sorry to get off topic again, feylya :D (we've covered just about everything from flying monkeys to telecasters, cool!)

emmet - here you go, it's the only decent shot i have at the moment. But you'll get the idea (the nice pic not being mine of course).

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,359 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Meh, don't worry about being on topic. I know I rarely am :p

    Nice guitars :D

and Feylya just be sure that you're not comin straight out of the cold into your lesson, stupid tip but is necessary, have your fingers well loosened beforehand.

Yeah, the cold is gonna be the tricky one cos I gotta walk across the town to get to the place. I'll be wrecked by the time I get there!!! At least I'll get some excercise :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,815 ✭✭✭✭emmet02

I would but €20 is a bit steep for me at the moment tbh. Unemployed student and all that.

it's pretty much the going rate for a one on one lesson though

Yeah, i'd like something like that to happen to me! The story of my Thinline is a little bit more complicated. I got it about 12 years ago in Iran (yes, Iran) - where you have remnants of the American and Western lifestyle before the revolution - a country where you still drive old 70s Buicks and Cadillacs and where you can still find old Fenders. They're illegal of course, but according to the mullahs, acoustics arent (they dont pose such a severe threat to the regime, apparently  ). I found this Fender in an ancient music store and saw a dismantled Fender. Somehow i managed to convince him that he wouldnt have a chance of selling it, but he'd easily find a buyer for my acoustic. So we traded. :)

    ha ha ha

    good job

Would do exactly the same myself!

20 yoyos doesnt sound too bad - perhaps once a week or so will do if you find a good teacher.

Aye, I know it is. Still expensive when you don't have the money.
