Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I was quoted €150 for a 10 minute consultation for a broken tooth, is that the going rate or is this guy some sort of dental yoda or am I being taken for a fool?

    Safe to say I'll be declining the offer so if anyone knows a great dentist in the area let me know :)

    without commenting on the above mentioned dentist I can highly recommend Dr. Nora Kearney, Grand Parade. She's an excellent dentist and I've always felt I got value for money.

    I'd second that. Only been to her twice but I had to have an extraction but the first time I had a weird reaction to the injection. She said I wasn't in the right place to do the extraction there and then. Re-scheduled and was never charged for the first visit. Second time around, she used a different anaesthetic and whipped the tooth out in no time.

    sounds like Nora alright, she's all about the patient...not the customer.

    Michael Hartnett is a specialist (an Endodontist) rather than a general dentist. He would be someone you'd go to if you need a diagnosis or treatment for something like a root canal. I've been to him and he was excellent, although expensive.

    If you haven't already been to a general dentist then do that first and they will tell you if you need a referral to a specialist.

    My own dentist is Denis O'Donovan in Grange dental practice, and he is fantastic.

    Yes my general dentist sent me there for a referral. I can't justify €150 for ten mins. Cannot do it.

    Do you have health insurance? Claim it back. Also, when you do your tax returns... I think you can get 20% of medical expenses.

    Another general dentist is not going to be a substitute for a specialist. You can say it to the dentist you originally went to, and they will give you other options... Like having the tooth removed, or an implant etc. get them to price each option.

    No health insurance and the tax back doesn't cover consultations, does cover the treatment though.

    Yeah I'll have to see about other options. Never realised how expensive dental stuff can be.
