Jesus Christ you would swear with all the wailing going on around here that Bruton is the saviour of Ireland, something of a cross between Moses, Obama, Roosevelt and Churchill.

Are we that desperate that we now see Bruton and the other gombeens that are/were on FG frontbench (Coveney, Hayes especially) as some ones that will save us ?

FFS more worrying should be the fact that yesterday, if anyone could take their eyes off this bloody ****ology, the top brass of Anglo marched arrogantly and smugly into the Dáil and said affectively 22 billion is down the swanee.
Also remember the good folks that gave them that taxpayers money are still in power and probably will be for the next two years.

It would not matter one jot if Obama was leading FG, the only ones that can get them to budge out of the government benches is us, the ordinary voters and citizens of this country.

The other thing is that most people around here do not appear to see how this will surely pan out and that Kenny is now gone anyway.

This result just means that the giggling socially inept political lightweight Bruton is hurt and a compromise candidate will surface.

Sooner of later within the next 6 months FG will have a new leader and it won't be either of them.
Any bets of Bruton being back in Finance role after that ?

Jsut hope it is not that spanner Coveney.

true , the real truth of the matter is that out of 160 something tds we have only maybe 4 or 5 from all the parties that are of a sufficient caliber that you could place any confidence in , its not a new leader of fine gael we need , its a total clean out of the political riff raff and oddballs that we have in the dail , seanad , councils and representing us in Europe, alas it will never happen and in 2217 we will still have a healy rae in parliament

The next opinion poll is going to be what finishes Kenny. All the chest beating, out of control ego's and bullshyt spinning that has been going on for the last week, that led to him winning this challenge, won't hide the reality that people just do not accept him as a credible leader of the country...

Even though the majority support him?

No, he should have stepped aside when practically all the major talent within FG stated that he no longer had their support and when, despite 8 years in the limelight, the public have repeatedly shown that they have no confidence in him.

Its sad that we don't really have a credible alternative Government.

FG's proved to be self indulged mé feiners today and have put Enda being a 'sound lad' ahead of being a true potential majority ruling party.

    Disagree.
All the Kennyites are on the radio now bleeting on about how good this win is and how Inda is a strong and courageous man blah blah.
What a pack of disconnected from reality morons.

    This result has damaged FG.

They should have had the sense to sort this behind closed doors and get the compromise new leader that way.

FG haven't even the number of seats they had prior to the 2002 election. They'll hold what they have maybe but gain very little, the surge will go to Labour.

    Take that Tánaiste Kenny

Que limp vote growth for the FG party. A truly backward and laughable outcome. Labour must be sitting back in glee at all this.

Oh come on. They're in opposition to possibly the most disliked government since the brits and they still can't pull off a victory.

FG have just demonstrated why they deserve to remain in opposition. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to secure votes from people like me from "old FF"families who given economic mess were willing 2 cross the divide as never before and vote 4 FG under Richard Bruton, one of the few politicians who has articulated an understanding of economic principles and would have at least given us a chance to emerge from this mess.

Voters like me will NEVER vote for FG under Enda Kenny, a man who needs to be prompted on how to answer economic questions..

The only winner here is FF. The opposition truly are a joke.

Apparently they're celebrating on the streets of Castlebar.

This deluded disconnected parochial politics makes me sick.

Definitely not voting for FG now!

Understanding economics does not make you a good leader. What is a disgrace is that Bruton says he will NOT serve on the front bench under Kenny, well then leave the party Mr Bruton.

The interview with the FG man in Castlebar on RTÉ was truly cringeworthy.

Bog Brains like Mairead McGuinness & Sean Kelly are most anxious to get their mugs in behind Enda for the media appearances. These people are not the sort of 'brains' to inspire or innovate.
A sad day for the Irish electorate. It truly is.

That twaddle was peddled incorrectly by Mr Higgins earlier.
He's entitled to decide to be a back bench FG T.D and decide not to serve in Kennys team when he has no confidence in him.
To suggest otherwise is just twaddle.

Just watching Kenny on TV3 now. His shower of gombeen cronies lining up behind him like bluebottles queing for best position on the freshly dropped turd.

    Well I'll certainly vote labour.
I'm not worried about all the tags they have about being another Bertie saying yes to everybody to be popular.
That would change very quick when they discover they can't borrow money for the likes of that.
    They know that too.

I think you'll find that it was impossible for them to not increase their support considering we're going through the worst economic crisis in our history which was mainly caused by the idiots in power. FG shoudl have considerably more support than they do at the moment. Kenny has been holding them back for at least 3 years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭?Cee?view

This is great. Not only have Kenny and his cronies set those in FG against each other. Now they're stoking the while urban/rural fire!

    Jesus wept.

Then he should show the strength of his convictions and leave the party if he is not prepared to do what the party leaders asks him if necessary, that is the biggest form of me-fein ism ever. He should do what is best for the country and his party in that order, not put himself first

    'Richard.Bruton@finegael.ie'; 'brian.hayes@oireachtas.ie'; 'simon.coveney@oireachtas.ie'; 'denis.naughten@oireachtas.ie'; 'olivia.mitchell@oireachtas.ie'; 'olwyn.enright@oireachtas.ie'; 'fergus.odowd@oireachtas.ie'; 'michael.creed@oireachtas.ie'; 'leo.varadkar@oireachtas.ie'; 'billy.timmins@oireachtas.ie'

This is a list of the email addresses of the front benchers that withdrew support from Kenny. Charlie Flanagan should be in there also actually. I'd urge everyone to email them expressing their disappointment at the result but their hope that they will stay opposed to Kenny as leader and refuse to take up front bench positions while he's in charge. With this action, Kenny would be forced to step aside.

    Eamon Gilmore will be Taoiseach.
    Kenny will be Tánaiste (maybe)

Lol Brian Hayes bruton supporter is on the last word now singing the praises of Enda Kenny..

    You couldn't make it up.

Yes this result has damaged FG.
It has damaged Kenny further in lots of ways, in others it has shown he is a street fighter with resolve much like the days of haughey.
Some will call it stupidity, others admire people for it.

This result has also shown that the FG frontbench have a fair chunk of eejits with inflated opinions of themselves.
It has also shown that Bruton is not a political operative even though he is a good economics mind.

Good smart bright intellectuals do not always make for good politicans, just ask McDowell.
    Hell look at bertie.

Either way i don't see Happy Gilmore being taoiseach or any of the ffers.

That's way over the top. Any party should be able to encompass different views. He should be allowed to have divergent opinions and he should be encouraged to debate these within the party.
