    great from morrisson.

Just to point out from English's 1.45.77 , if he runs again in the coming weeks he will prob get the A standard if its a paced race with high class athletes, given this form. Would be some achievement if he did it.
what a talent and only 19 this year

Can't find results of last 64 in BMX but Kelvin didn't make last 32. Will have to wait to see how they rank

His brother tweeted 'It doesn't look likely'

Taken out of it whilst in third in the last moto.

Maybe be in line if places handed back.

    Shame

By far the best ever result by an Irish athlete. Might have to bump her up the 'likely' medal table ;)

Fantastic there by Aileen, she is really getting it together now...the last race I seen her she was 4th out of the water, usually her weakest discipline of the three but faded on the run....she's getting the balance just right now, really exciting prospect.....it's not exactly out of the blue though, she had arguably a better result at Hamburg World Series race in 2010 where she finished 3rd....Hamburg is always one of the most competitive meets of the triathlon season.

    Very well done to Aileen!

Do we have anyone else in the women's triathlon? And do we have, and do we consider 'domestiques', where we may have one real medal hope?? Saw San Diego and the interviews with the Team GB Triathlon coach who said it was all about medals, and potential Olympic triathletes would have to decide if being selected for The Olympics meant going to try medal Helen Jenkins. These triathletes agreed they would take this role if it meant getting there.

I know there was a recent discussion on this re cycling.

Aileen Morrison is the only Irish woman who can qualify for London. Emma Davis who was Ireland's first triathlete in Beijing 2008 has been injured pretty much on and off since then and doesn't compete to often on the elite stage now, which is a shame.
Gavin Noble is on the verge of making the men's triathlon for London. Bryan Keane was unlucky due to miss out due to injury but he should be back to challenge for Rio 2016.

Ireland are hoping to gain 2 more Olympians tomorrow also. Pentathlete, Arthur Lanigan O'Keeffe goes in the men's World Cup Final in Chengdu and Gavin Noble will know after the Madrid ITU World Championships Series race tomorrow whether he makes the Olympic team. Gavin is not competing so he is hoping that results go his way (although it would be a truly unlikely set of results that would see him slip out of the quota places in the Olympic rankings).

An article on Aileen Morrison on BBC suggests that Gavin noble is competing in Madrid. So maybe his fate is in his own hands afterall.

At the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Series Final in Chengdu Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe is battling hard to finish high up the standings to improve his Olympic ranking and hoping to move into the Olympic qualifying positions. He has made an excellent start and after 2 events (fencing and swimming) he lies in 6th place. He moved up 2 places after the swimming and now moves on to the third discipline, the riding event (showjumping).
Eanna Bailey is also competing at the event and is in 35th place.

Indeed you are right, Gavin has gotten a late call up due to others withdrawing. It had been reported recently that he was not on the start list stemming from unfortunate timing in terms of an injury setback earlier in the season. This is very good news and boosts his chances of making his first Olympics. He is odds on to become the country's first male triathlete at this stage.

I know it's only Wikipedia but I don't like that they've listed 7 qualifiers from rankings and Natalya Coyle isn't one of them...

Kelvin Batey has also confirmed he hasn't qualified for London.

Don't worry, Natalya has definitely made the Olympics...it's a complicated procedure with places being re-allocated and such....Natalya has got her place 100%.

Disaster for Arthur in the riding portion. Worst score so far, drops him to mid 20s

Disastrous alright...think his Olympic chances have just gone up in smoke with that round.

About time I updated this table:

Athletes in bold have achieved the A qualifying standard.

Athletes in red have achieved the B qualifying standard.
    (A) = A standard
(A*) = Athlete achieved the A standard but missed out on selection as more than the maximum quota of athletes have met the A-standard for that event.
    (B) = B standard
(B*)= B standard but A standard has been achieved by another athlete in that event.

She was out for the 2011 season as she had a baby. I believe she's training away over in the States now but it's difficult to know what her chances are. She's going to have a crack at qualification anyway as far as I know but time really isn't on her side.

McMahon wins Sliver in European 50m breaststroke final.
Only 17 this year, by far the youngest in the final.
it's not an olympic event but give her a few years and her strength in the 200m breaststroke should improve. exciting times

Gavin Noble is Ireland's latest member of the ever growing London 2012 team. He has qualified for the men's triathlon event and will be the first Irish man to represent the country in men's triathlon. Brings up 55 in terms of Irish team members for London.

She is a star in the making...bring on Rio London...although she won't medal this time round it'll be great to see her at the Olympics...lots of young Irish talent on show in London:
    • Sycerika McMahon (Swimming - only 17)
    • Grainne Murphy (Swimming - she's still only 19, should be in her prime in Rio)
    • Possibly Ciara Mageean (Athletics 1,500m - has the B-standard, only 20)
    • Possibly Mark English (Athletics 800m - has the B-standard, only 19)
    • Michael Conlan (Boxing - only 20)
    • Possibly Joe Ward (Boxing - only 19!!)
    • Natalya Coyle (Modern Pentathlon - only 21)
    • Scott Flanigan (Sailing - only 19)
    • Annalise Murphy (Sailing - only 22)
    • Chloe Magee (Badminton - still only 23, hard to believe as she seems to be around for ages!)
    • Brendan Boyce (50km Walk - 25 but that is very young for his specialised event)
    • Possibly Jessie Barr (400m Hurdles - has the B-standard, only 22)
Really promising base to build on for Rio, real talent amongst that list.

Hi All, been following this thread over the last while - popping in maybe twice a week to check on updates, wp all some fantastic stuff and incredible level of detail, particualry from Dan.

Anyways, spotted the article below in todays Sindo, and was reminded of this thread. It also points out what many of you have been saying, the lack of 'Olympic Tourists' this time out and that this is one of the largest and talented squads we've sent to a games. It also praises the decision not to use 'B' qualifying standards and claims this has forced our competitors to up their game so to speak

Kieran Behan finished 7th in the European Gymnastics Championships final for the men's floor apparatus. His score was down on his qualification score but he may have opted for a more difficult routine for the final. Anyway it has been a successful championships for Kieran and I'm sure he will take a lot of positives from his performances this week.

[Quote=Dan man; Dan, some of your tables have the right-hand half obliterated on screen. I dont know if this is a problem specific to me or if it's at your end or if anyone else has the problem. Maybe there's nothing to be done about it, and anyway it's not the end of the world, but I just thought I'd tell you about it. Well done again on all your splendid work.

Yes, e.g. at 11.24 yesterday your posting reads:
Athletics - event - olympic stand
    Jason Smith - 100m - A= 10.18 secs. B = 1
    and so on down.

Not an important issue, but the table is truncated when I look at it using my iPhone too!

Now on to more important things......Joe ward. where does he stand in the pecking order of getting an invite? And why? Is if based on rankings or is it discretional? Is there any precedents that says he will/won't get an invite?

I'm also viewing it from my iPhone and all the info is displayed. If you can see as far as the column titled personal best then you have the full table.

Joe Ward should be first in line for the invitation spot. The reason why is that the tripartite commission cannot award the spot to developing nation as none in Europe meet the criteria.
What should happen under the rules outlined in the qualifying system is that the place is then re-allocated to the AIBA (international boxing federation) to be re-distributed. The rules in the qualification pathway states that it should go to the highest ranked non-qualifier from the 2011 World Championships. Joe Ward fits the bill.
