hi, i would,nt suggest a pi to anyone, they will charge a small fortune for work u can easily do urself. if u follow the tracing guide u can do ur search urself.

When you say follow the tracing guide what do you mean? I am looking into hiring a PI but they do cost the earth so would be delighted if I could do some or all of the work myself

hi micha, take a look in the thread adoption tracing guides and follow them.
first u can apply to ur adoption agency or hse if agency is closed for ur non id info, this will give u the name ur birthmum called u at birth and should give age of ur bmum when she had u, and where u were born.
from their u need to go to the gro in the irish life mall in dublin and look through the books for ur year of birth, looking for a baby born on ur date of birth with mothers surname and babies the same, this is a real give away of mother being single. when u have ur birthcert u will then have mothers name so u can look for her birthcert which will give where she is from, then look for marraige cert for her, her parents names will be on both birth and marriage cert. hope this helps, it can be done. kathy

The reason I asked is because I done the whole search thing myself for 8 years and due to lies I was told by social workers I have been led down dead ends so many times .

    Hi Trixy
If the basic information is incorrect, you could put Magnum PI :-) on the case and he won't get anywhere, you know the computer programmers saying? Rubbish In - Rubbish Out!

How long ago did you get the info and, more importantly, which agency dealt with the adoption, because the accuracy of the information varies from one to the other and certain agengies or, to be fair, certain individuals in certain agencies told outrageous lies, altered or fabricated files etc. etc. but many of them are gone now so it might be worth contacting the AAI to see who has the files now and the AAI themselves will have a file from the time of your adoption and might be able to provide advice/assistance.

Good luck and don't give up!

I know the feeling.for years i was denied access to info about my bm and as the agency i came from had since closed and was in the process of transferring files to hse,it was a nightmare wait.nothin washappenin for a long time so i wrote to hse claiming i was v.ill and needed immediate acess to family medical records.within no time at all i had a meeting with my bm.was a real let down in the end but at least it happenend

Many years ago I hired a pi to get some info on my birth mother, some of the stuff he came back with was so off the wall that I felt like he was laughing and mocking me, it was crazy and I paid him a crazy amount of money for it .

As said above this can be done by yourself if you have some correct info. I have met a lot of people who have been given wrong details, In one case the person celebrates two birthdays each year due to having two dates of birth and not knowing which is right.
I have heard that you can hire someone to do the search for you, think they are called Angels ?
I started a search years ago and found a couple of matches just half way through but due to family/work commitments I didnt finish my search Its very time consuming can be costly with parking ect..
I would like to complete my search now but would be easier if I could get someone trustworthy to do it for me.

Avoid investigators as the will not be discreet.

I successfully met my birth mother 16 yrs ago, however employing, and paying a substantial amount of cash to a detective was a waste of hard earned cash, it was a waste of time and emotion. And brought me nowhere near finding my mother, check with genuine charitable and non profit organisations that specialise in adoption tracing .
