Not sure if this thread is more applicable here or in the Computer & Tech section..

I'm installing the Sonos wireless audio system in my house and need some advice on the best NAS device to use. It will be used for storing my music, that I already have and as I understand plugs into my wireless router to be made available on my home network.
I need a NAS device that is scalable, reliable and has a redundancy mechanism built in should a fault / failure occur.

Can anyone advice on a suitable device please? Current storage requirements are 500G with no more than 1 TB max storage required

It sounds like you might want to get a NAS with two drives to run with a RAID backup configuration for security. I have one like this myself and use it with Sonos.

This Zyxel one on Dabs is at a very low price for €170. It has 2 x 1TB drives and can run RAID 1 so if one of the drives fails, it's not a big deal as the other is an exact mirror.

That one can't be upgraded though. If you want one that can be, the next step up is the Buffalo Linkstation Duo for €230 which allows you to easily swap the drives if you want to upgrade it.

C14N, the zyxel drive is 1 x 2tb, it's a single drive NAS with no redundancy. The Buffalo is a real budget NAS and I've heard they are not that great.

Robh71, if you want something that is high quality and has great software and support, I'd suggest either the synology 212j or the qnap TS212. Neither of these come with hard drives and are €183 and €167 respectively on komplett.ie
These will give you huge storage plus redundancy, they both support the latest 3 tb drives and both have android and iOS apps for remote access. I have the synology 212j and can highly recommend it.
