Like a feckin eejit i missed the end of the sale on ebay and there's no sign of the watch being relisted :( dammit!!!

I really like the sottomarino range but that one was my def fave.

You could try sending him an email, I have the watch saved as well and I see there were listed more than 10 available, so I don't think all were sold in that very short time. You've got nothing to lose after all!

Yeah I would email him. Avoid eBay fees too.

I did mention that I still had watches in the post, didn't I ? :D

Today this battered old Vostok Amphibia handwind with the rarer black bezel arrived and I have to say ...me likey very much.

Very comfortable shape and to the naked eye (i.e. not magnified by the camera) the cracked and weathered dial has a yellow/green metallic effect ...very cool

Well done! It's actually nicer in the flesh than the pictures reflect and for that price it's an absolute steal!

Here's some better resolution pictures to wet your appetite although mine is with the black bezel :p

Thats for sure. I got to look at Homers watch last week and it is a fantastic watch for the money.

Very nice Homer & salad dodger - sorely tempted by one of those also. In fact I really liked the look of their diving watch, until I realised it was a 52mm diameter case. As much as I like a chunky watch, that might be a little too big.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,065 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Damn! they're good value. 52mm? I could use that as a personal submarine :D

on the diving watch front I'm chewing the furniture on a vintage diving "grail" watch for myself. No rolex or anything but I always had my eye on one. Im the only bidder. 5 mins to go.... arrrrghh the tension....

vintage diver you say? mmmm...sounds interesting. I'll hang around for the next few mins, see what its like.

:( lost the auction. Maybe for the best. Private bidder won in suspicious circumstances. Eff that. GAH!:(

    The Aristo/Apucto has arrived.

There really isn't much to it ...it's round, it ticks, you can read the time across the room and it's nicely finished ...perfect.

They call this movement the "Russian tractor" because it's supposed to be strong and reliable. I guess its sound might have something to do with that name also ...hold that hing to your ear and it sounds not unlike one of those old Lanz single cylinder bulldogs on tickover :D

Ha! no I'm keeping my budget for whatever I end up getting in the decisions, decisions thread :D

Didn't get time to take pictures last night or this morning but spotted a Seiko 7S36 Automatic Diver Watch on adverts.ie yesterday and ended up getting it for €90 pretty much brand new in the box, never worn :)
It's identical to the one below..

As far as I understand Aristo are a German watch maker that use either Swiss (ETA) or Russian (Molnija) movements.

Peasants watch has a Molnija movement, and he points out is part of a limited run.

It is available here for just under £200, but I think Peasant bought it on ebay, and I'd say paid a lot less for it ;)

Less yes ...but not that much less. The days where you get nice shtuff for half naddn on e-bay are pretty much over.

But other than that your post was correct :D
(except that my watch, the HP2 doesn't seem to be available new anymore)
