I have not done any digging to see how the data is collected. I assume that they are collected by the appliances Norse markets, so the report may not be complete or statistically accurate. For example LI seems to be getting a large number of attacks for the size of the Principality. I am guessing that Norse has sold a large number of appliances in that market.

After watching the attacks for about 10 mins:

The main attack origins are: China, Vietnam, USA, Netherlands (nearly as many as USA) and Russia.

Ireland has not shown up once – which is strange given all the data centres, cloud storage etc. Perhaps one answer is that they use IP numbers registered in the US or elsewhere? Or nobody uses Norse appliances?

GB has not been attacked once. I find this incredible given the size, politics and antics that go on, on that island, and their close relationship with certain US three letter agencies. While I have not been able to get my hands on pricing for Norse appliances, they smell expensive. Expensive goes against the grain there.

Cyprus, given its tiny size, is a major attack target. Russian payback for bank haircut? Or there are many Norse installations on the island?

Looking at the map, there is a lot of activity on what looks like the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe off West Africa. It makes me wonder if they sold some IP address space to the USA (which has not been properly registered in the IP address database somewhere)?

Today Germany announced fines of up to 100’000 EUR on 2’000 “institutions of critical infrastructure” if they failed to meet minimum standards. The BKA (Bundeskriminalamt) and other agencies will be getting extra funding for “cyber security”.

This is a marketing gimmick... I'd take it with a pinch of salt. I'd trust a community run honeypot network a bit more tbh.

Here is one run by Deutsche Telecom. They run an in-house one and a community one. Here's the community one:

This is largely German centric, as one would expect from Telekom. One would have thought that an appliance manufacturer should have a wider global reach, especially if the product was widely distributed internationally.

I used to work in a SOC that had this on the wall. Looked fabulous for potential clients coming in to visit, but was about as useful as if I'd drawn a giant cock on the wall.
