leaving work due to anxiety

I cant go back to where I work because of anxiety. I work as a waitress. I've had sexual harassment from a customer and recently my boss. I cant face going in again. If I don't go back I won't be entitled to any benefits for quitting. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to report the harassment for many reasons. I'm looking for work but it could mean weeks/months without money which I can't afford either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go and see your doctor. If they give you a certificate saying you're not fit for working in that job again, you will be eligible for welfare.

And go get some legal advice too.

Definitely go to your GP and talk to them about how you feel.

I'd also urge you to take advice regarding how your manager has treated you. Someone has to call these guys out and if your not going back them it would be a good opportunity for you to do it.

Do you have a previous history of anxiety? I work as a waitress and this job is not for someone who suffers from anxiety or any mental issues. Also do you have proof of this sexual harassment as people are encouraging you to take legal advice and you would need to have proof.... I don't see how you should get benefits though if you took an unsuitable job and are looking for a way out (claiming both staff and customers are sexually harassing you)

Seriously SHADYLOU, how did you come to that conclusion.
The OP is anxious due the the issues that he/she has described.
    Offer some constructive advice please.

I came to that conclusion because the op mentions 'anxiety' which is a medical condition instead of just saying they felt afraid or nervous.
I also have 20 years experience as a waitress and have seen all types pass through including thise who have made accusations against others that were unfounded just because they found they did not like the job.
Thats why i told the op to make sure they have proof before they go down the legal route.

We can only take the op on her word. If they state that they were sexually harassed well that's good enough for me.

I'd be putting everything down in a diary, going to a doctor and if not in a union getting advice elsewhere. The employer has a duty of care under H&S legislation and if an employer or manager is also engaging in sexual harassment I would definitely be taking it further.

OP, take great care of yourself.

It is important that you get help from your GP and an Employment Law Specialist.

Stay positive, these difficult times will pass. Plan for a brighter future:)
