Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Hi Folks

    If you had to advise a start-up client around lead gen from their Website for first 6 months for B2C in Ireland

    Site is a must around responsive deign etc and a Blog that is active weekly and base around Keywords.

    SEO - Takes 6 months on a new site but needs investment?
    PPC - Can be expensive, is it still working for people in b2C space?
    Fan page on Facebook - I see you can target people on a lot of areas?
    Other Social media?

    Other advice?

    SEO (on page) will not necessarily take 6 months, or alot of investment however its does take working smart, and making sure your content is alot better than everyone else's in the same field.

    Backlinking: Do this really carefully, its very easy to get a manual or algorithmic penalty these days just by hiring one guy on Fivver and it can be a complete nightmare to recover from - use contacts in media sources if you have them to publish well written natural looking articles (not press releases).

    Local Citations:
    Foursquare
    GooglePlus Local
    Yellow pages etc...

    Social media wise, you should broadcast to every source you can find:
    Google Plus (verified local page AND author pages)
    Twitter
    Stumbleupon
    Facebook
    Tumblr
    linkedin
    pinterest

    Make sure you have videos and on multiple sources:
    Vimeo
    Youtube
    dailymotion

    The problem with social media is, are people really going to be bothered talking / sharing posts about your business or product ? If not, how do you get them talking about it.

    youtube is the second biggest search engine out there apparently

    also google plus helps with your sites trust ranking

    Your social media should be of interest to your target market/s not just about your products.

    Something else to consider is buying a subscription to a ratings center e.g. Trust Pilot alongside standard Google business reviews - yes not cheap, however the reviews stay in place even after your campaign finishes and they WILL negotiate over the phone on the rates.

    Having those little stars beside your name in the results is HUGE impact in terms of getting clicks both on your local business listing and Adwords and not to mention impacting client trust before they even get to your site.

    Also include a ratings system utilizing micro data ON your site as well that will be read by google
