Has anyone heard any rumours information on who the performers might be, and prices of tickets etc?

There was talk of Ed Sheeran but I highly doubt it would be him.

It would want to be somebody good though if they're intent on having just a one day event.

Is it just going to be one concert?
I was expecting it to be something similar to the trinity ball if it's going to be 'replacing' rag week!!

Ah Jesus, it would be a terrible waste if it were. I remember a few years ago DKIT had Rodrigo Y Gabriela playing at their RAG Week, that is undeniably cool. I sincerely doubt that the NUIG concert will be anywhere as awesome as that, it will probably be some awful bunch of fuckers conforming to the resentful and uninteresting music featured on iRadio...

    * the opinions stated above are those of Paul Courtney, and not representitive of those involved on the daily Music Library programs, or indeed Flirt FM as a whole

    I have to...

Would be fantastic if they could get Ed Sheeran, Black Eyed Peas and Tinie Tempah to play, with a DJ set from the cast of the Inbetweeners. And have it in Clifden or something.

Would be like a mong-magnet. Town would be great craic then.

We're still looking at the logistics of the replacement day, and so we can't confirm/deny anything until early next semester. Don't want to build expectations up until we're sure we can deliver. We'll keep everyone informed through the weekly email though.

    Thanks,
    The SU

Rodrigo y Gabriella played the O'Flaherty theatre about 5 years ago.

But you're right - of course the concert will be ****. No one will be surprised. The replacement concert was a silly part of that "deal".

If it's in Dangan they might run shuttle buses for students, so yeah.

When I was in NUIG, Rodrigo Y Gabriela played 3 or 4 times over 2 years, was insane, used to sell out in mere moments!

There are plenty of decent acts like that that NUIG could manage to pull in... They used to be able to pull in good comedy acts for Tuesday Night Ents such as Ed Byrne, Conor Murphy, Maeve Higgins, Andrew Maxwell, David O'Doherty etc... So I don't see why they wouldn't be able to swing an up-and-coming act like Ed Sheeran. If they really put effort in they could maybe even get someone like We Are Scientists, those guys are always hanging about Galway shur!

They only played NUIG once, no?
They played the Black Box a few times too though. And the Radisson, Zhivago's, and the Big Top.

Yeah I think they only played once on campus. There was a sudoku competition in Sin at the time for two tickets, there was an error in it though... so I submitted my entry showing why it couldn't be solved (same number printed twice on the same line).... got the two free tickets. :p

    Hasn't been "up-and-coming" for about 3 years.

I'd say expect someone like Keywest followed by DJ Byrno. :o I do hope I'm wrong though.

Just realised this is only 2 months away now.
You'd think they'd let us know when and where Dj Byrno is playing soon...

You can't exactly describe independantly produced EPs that did not chart, along with performing free gigs in pubs, as having made it! His debut album on a record label was only released less than a year ago, not exactly a global superstar yet. Not that I don't like the man, and I love the album, but you can't say that he had made it big 3 years ago!

Didn't they have Calvin Harris a few years back?
Not saying I'm a fan of his but if they were able to bring in an international act like him then they surely could put out a decent lineup!

2010 Rag Week, aye. Massive queue for tickets then people complaining afterwards when it was only his DJ set, despite it being advertised as such.

Eh? He was actually there... and he's a DJ. What were people expecting, him on top of the speakers playing a bass riff?

They should be able to get someone like John O'Callaghan. Domestic, but quite well known and also quite good (if you're into that). Club K got him for christ's sake...

I'm still laughing at that post about the SU Elections. "Campus is absolutely buzzing with the Rizzle Kicks coup". There hasn't been excitement as tangible as this since Vengaboys took the College Bar by storm. There's a point actually, get the Antarctic Monkeys (the tribute band), seen them in the CB before and they're every bit as good (again, if you're into it) as the real thing.

According to the Education Officer, this will almost certainly take place on a Sunday. Good luck with that.

That's a shocking decision if true.

What's wrong with having it on a Sunday?

Can't have it during the week 'cos we're all going to lectures and not partaking in any sort of unofficial socialising since the SU sold us all down the river, remember.

Do you need the college's or the SU's approval to go drinking?
