Bad week for rugby in terms of retirements :(

That's got to be really tough for Stephen especially, after working so hard and for so long through rehab.

    Really disappointing.

No mention of the ankle injury as his cause for retirement, but just assume it is the ongoing treatment that has resulted in this decision.

    Good luck Stevie !

I will give him my ankle!

Interestingly Ulster now have only four fully professional players who aren't injured, with Emerging Ireland or on senior international duty.

You might need to be in hone UK to watch the above interview with Stevie Ferris.

Haven't really said much since his retirement but I can honestly say he was my favourite Ulster player of the current generation. A pleasure to watch and it's sad it came to an end prematurely. Still he has had a better career than most can even dream of and will be remember as a proper Ulster legend until the end of his days.

David Humphreys is leaving Ulster to move to Gloucester apparently.

Bad week for Ulster, first the Ferris news (fairly inevitable but still) and now this.

Is it just me or is that a big step down?

No he wouldn't have known as Gloucester only parted ways with their head coach at the end of the season whereas Afoa's deal was agreed in Jan/Feb.

Now come on you really think the first we hear is the first people know? Is say he knew pre move.

Presumably he's not a coach though. He's a director of rugby.

It's a pretty huge step down - Gloucester must have some amount of loot.

    Mark McCall anyone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

Rumour Glaws have offered him hugely increased terms.

Yeah was thinking that about the money. Looking at Gloucester's form it's all over the place, do well some seasons , others they finish 9th (like this season).

McCall doesn't do the same job as Humph. They're both nominally DoRs but McCall does the coaching/team selection/tactics and Humph does commercial/management stuff.

WTF?? Is this a wind up?

Jesus, first Fez and now this.

Where are we headed next year? A coach who doesn't seem to have a set idea of where his team is at or what way he wants them to play, a number of great players who've retired or left and no real "big" signings to speak off.

I hope we don't start drifting into a bit of mediocrity over the next few seasons.
