Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

best roaming package for ireland and spain

    hey,

    my folks have been between ireland and spain for the last 12 years ish. they are currently on bill with vodafone but are weighing up their options at the moment.

    their situation is currently about 50/50 between ireland and spain each year.

    what would be their best option for calls and texts, they dont need data.

    i was thinking maybe a lyca simcard or something?

    Hi,

    It may be worth considering buying an unlocked, two sim phone - which would allow the use of two sim cards from two different networks (one Irish, one Spanish) on the same handset simultaneously. Then your folks just use whichever sim is appropriate for the country they are in, for their calls etc. while remaining contactable no their other number.

    The Irish network operators don't sell the dual sim phones as they have a vested interest in keeping you tied down to their network, but you can buy them easily from independent phone shops or on the internet.

    eMobile & Meteor offer free incoming calls when roaming. This would allow your family and friends to ring your folks in Spain without incurring any roaming charges. They also have apps which give 400 free texts per month, including 100 international (useful for texting Spanish numbers). Although you say they don't need data, it might be worth considering a modest data bundle to allow for text, Whats-App etc, plus it would allow the use of Skype & Viber. eMobile & Meteor have a €14.99 1GB data which can be used over 30 days when roaming. This would give them everything they need to keep in touch with home.

    thanks for replies, she was jus done in the lcoal emteor store and they offered her a decent samsung phone and told her the sim only option would be best, so shes gonna go with the meteor option. cheers.
