Last time I checked he wasn't quoting any news source, and in fact it was you who linked to a major British news source.
Well as the saying goes, even a broken clock tells the correct time twice a day. But of course Sky couldn't leave the propaganda out, like I said in post 6, Iran.....Iran.....Iran was continually mentioned, you'd think some Iranians had been caught red handed at the bomb site.

Ajazeera is posting rumours from a correspondent based hundreds of miles away, who has most likely paid Afghan military officers for the info.

We will wait for to what the MOD say.

Mainsream news channels are simply reporting what they know.
More like the Ministry of Truth as George Orwell would put it  Do you ask yourself why it's taking so long for the Ministry of Truth/Defence to release a press statement ?

NO. I takes time to advise all the families, who may ask for extra time to deal with it before a public annoucement.

Why are you so keen for MOD to make announcements. You remind me of the old crones who used to watch the public executions of old.

Well I would have thought when it's all over Sky and BBC news, the papers for nearly 24 hours or whatever etc, it's a bit strange it takes the Ministry of Truth/Defence so long to confirm the story .........

Not saying I agree with thecommietommy's sentiments or intent when posting here, but the British MOD are often slow to release information on incidents, the Nimrod crash in 2006 being a prime example. Silence from the MOD led to the media 'experts' going on the rampage reporting the accident as a Chinook, Hercules, or a Nimrod all at different times, causing much distress for many people back in the UK who had friends/family deployed to Afghanistan on these types... Furthermore they then released that the aircraft had been lost in an accident, while still not confirming the type so the media had to continue making it up as they went along...

I understand the US has a much more efficient system in place to release information. Then again the US military is much larger...

.......Its because they have to visit all relatives and the investigate the exact circumstances before info can be given out, this usually takes in large incidents about 48 hours......they cant get in wrong.

...The US military often realises statements early then backtracks, look at the confussion over the Bin Laden operation as an example.

As stated in other posts, MOD has to deal in facts when talking to relatives and has to co ordinate the visits so they all happen at the same time. SKY et al can and do talk a load of crap because they need to fill the hours of transmissions.

If you were one of the unfortunate relatives, who would prefer was giving you the information?????

I would have thought a Soviet era mine would be designed to take out a tank, if that's what it was.

Indeed, Soviet troops preferred to sit on top of their BMPs and BTRs rather than be inside, the rationale being that you'd have a better chance of being blown clear rather than be inside when a mine exploded.

Of course the Warrior is a far better vehicle than soviet era ones but if a mine is big enough then it dosen't matter.

The internal on-board ammunition stowage blew up - the fire was too intense for any rescue attempts to be realistically achieved.

    The onlookers could do nothing.

RIP. Lets have some respect for the dead please.
Yes, what their families are going through must be unimaginable. I suppose a few Islamic looneys will be rejoicing though. Regardless the dead must always be respected, the worst I ever heard was when the Liverpool fans urinated on the dead at Hillsborough

I remember watching a documentary on WW2 and tank battles etc and infantry men etc said that one of the most horrific things that haunts them most is the screams of men inside a buning tank, regardless if it was American, British or German.

Would that only make them venerable to snipers ?

Surprised none of you fellas had posted this. I thought the Taliban were done and dusted ?

    http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16183891

The 'Taliban' make up only two of over 90 resistance factions, and said factions control 105 out of 116 sectors. So yeah, the only forces done and dusted is ISAF.

Russkies had the right idea anyway - don't believe your own hype and sit on the AFV roof. Being thrown 40 feet is better than being killed.
