Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Can I buy car insurance before my physical license arrives?

    I just passed my driving test in the UK but it will be three weeks until they send the actual license to my address in Ireland.
    I have a good quote from the AA and was wondering if I can buy this insurance before the license itself arrives (I have my driver number)

    Yeah, just note that they sometimes want a photocopy of the licence sent to them. Depends on the company.

    i'm a bit confused; did you put an RoI address down when completing a GB driving test? THey won't issue a licence with a non UK address plus if you weren't "resident" (within their terms) for 6 months prior to the test, it's of dubious validity. Irrespective of the test point, they won't issue a licence with an overseas address - this is an issue for people leaving the UK all the time.
