That's a ridiculously strong full back line, looks mean.

Great to see the likes of Hanafin, Farrell and Murphy getting lots of game time. O'Shea at wing back could be an option for the Summer, he's a very tidy player.

Good to see Ollie back. Such an important player for Kildare. Interesting to note that 7 of that team by my count have played with the Kildare juniors at some stage.

That's a strong panel the under 21s have this year. Hopefully can make a push through this year

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. That's a very weak looking squad of players.

Has Chris Fenner played for Larries in the championship at all?

Yep in 2013 done his cruciate that year so probably only getting back right now.

u21 panel will be trimmed in the next few weeks. They have been carrying a big panel up until now but have had a good few lads missing with college commitments in the O'Byrne Cup. We will see more of a settled team emerging in the next six weeks or so before the Leinster Championship starts. There are a few names I have seen featuring in the last three weekends who will struggle to cut it at county level.

    Kehoe Cup
    Kildare 0-22 NUI Maynooth 0-14

    O'Byrne Cup
    Kildare 2-15 DIT 0-9

    O’Flaherty (1-4, 1f), Fogarty (0-4), Hanafin (1-0), Dowling (0-2, 1f), Murphy (0-2, 1 45), White (0-1), Lynch (0-1), Farrell (0-1)

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,768 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Didn't get to the game today. Listened on the radio. Commentator said Fogarty scored a point from 60 yards with the outside of his boot. Impressive if true

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

We kicked some great points in that first half albeit with a strong breeze behind us. Fogarty and Lynch's efforts were out of the top drawer.

Dublin next Saturday which is great preparation for the Down and Meath league fixtures.

I heard Keith Cribbin will be involved at the weekend. Paul Cribbin, Emmet Bolton and Fergal Conway also on the mend.

David Young will hurl for Kildare in 2015. He played in Tipperary's All-Ireland win against Kilkenny in 2010. Nice coup for the hurlers.

Is Jack O'Connor's son Eanna involved with the Kildare set-up this year?

    How is he rated?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

He was invited to play in the trial games back in October but he couldn't play due to Moorefield's involvement in the Leinster Championship. Unknown whether he was offered a call up for the O'Byrne Cup and refused or whether Ryan just decided to stick with what he had on the panel already.

He'd hold his own at county level going on his club championship form where he finished as top scorer.

    Kildare team (v Dublin 25/1/15)

    1 Mark Donnellan (Maynooth)
    2 Ollie Lyons (Celbridge)
    3 Ciaran Fitzpatrick (Kilcock)
    4 Mick O'Grady (Celbridge)
    5 Eoin Doyle (Naas)
    6 Daryl O'Brien (Carbury)
7 Peter Kelly (Two Mile House)
    8 Hugh Lynch (Confey)
    9 Pádraig O'Neill (St Laurence's)
    10 Éamonn Callaghan (Naas)
    11 Eoghan O'Flaherty (Carbury)
    12 Kevin Murnaghan (Moorefield)
    13 Fionn Dowling (Suncroft)
    14 Tomás O'Connor (Clane)
    15 Darroch Mulhall (Athy)

A team picked with the Down and Meath matches in mind by the looks of things. I would have liked to see how Fogarty would have got on up against O'Carroll.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭Nib

O'Carroll has had O'Connor's number for a few years now, I would have liked to have seen Fogarty in there too. Daryl O'Brien will be given his first real test at centre-back, it'll be interesting to see how he gets on.

Not at all convinced of having Peter Kelly playing anywhere but in the full-back line.

Looking forward to this game, should be a good atmosphere in a packed St Conleth's.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

I would expect Kelly to mark Eoghan O'Gara wherever he lines out for them. All three of the full back line named would be equally as comfortable out in the half backs.

It's about as strong a team as we can name with Moolick, Bolton, Smith, McNally, Fergal Conway, the Cribbins and hopefully Dan Flynn to come back in to contention. I guess Niall Kelly and David Hyland will be used sparingly until their Sigerson and u21 commitments are over.

didn't make this one but it sounded great for this stage of the season. I think both sides will be happy to have played as many competitive games as possible at this time of year and both teams got that out of today.

Kildare start their Division 2 league campaign at home to Down next Sunday before a trip to Navan to face Meath the following Saturday night. Ryan offered the latest update on their injury situation.

“Peter (Kelly), please God will be okay. Eoghan O’Flaherty we decided not to play him. He might have been able to play, but just to make sure things were okay for him for next week we left him out. Niall Kelly (UCD) and David Hyland (Maynooth) will be back and available for selection so after that we are pretty good."

“Paul Cribben, Cathal McNally, Alan Smith, Michael Conway, Fergal Conway, they are all there or thereabouts. They probably won’t be available for next week, but hopefully for the Meath game we’ll have another batch of guys available."

If we have a full deck from March onwards we should finish the league strongly. Very important to get a result next Sunday against Down with only three home games. Defeat and a very tricky match in Navan the Saturday after could leave us out of contention after only two matches.
