I don't know anyone above 17.5 stone with his type of pace or even close to his kind of pace. Closest George North/Sonny Bill and they're still well short in size and speed. Lomu was 19 stone, most of it it in his legs and able to run 100 metres in 11 seconds. Would have loved to have seen him in NFL. Jese he'd have been a devestating running back, just hand him the ball and watch him make 30 yards each time.
Absolutely. He just had that awe factor that no other player had or has.

A bit like mike tyson, you just watched in 'shock & awe' as they destroyed their opponents.

For me whilst he is great at all those things you say above, he doesnt quite have the level of footballing ability and flare to be considered the greatest in a sport where those things are so important. A Michael Jones/Zinzan I suppose had much more of that but fall short in some of McCaws great qualities.

For me Lomu had the greatest impact, Cullen was the most exciting and natural, Carter the greatest all round skills, McCaw the greatest forward and BOD the greatest competitor (if only he could kick! ).

Even sooner, I'd say. Haven't seen lineup for Saturday night's game but last I heard he was in.

I went for the unpredictable, mercurial, run the ball from everywhere

Serge Blanco

also he still holds the record for the most tries scored for France @ 38 and that record is almost 24 years old

action starts at 1min

One piece of evidence as to why this guy should be on the list:

John Kirwan. He also holds the NZ try scoring record.

Another superb runner was Jason Robinson. Couldn't kick snow off a rope and his passing never seemed great, as in I don't remember him drawing defenders like BOD would. But for his sheer ability to sidestep he was super dangerous. (Puzzling how BOD is not a great kicker BTW)
I always thought England did a poor job of presenting him with opportunities once in the opponents 22. Robinson was about as quick as is possible as regards stop/start/sidestep. You'd think a team totally bought into using him would be able to get him into posession more often.
Think of how rarely you'd see Robinson tackled by the first up defender. He was always making yards.
