So i recently upgraded my Graphics card with a second hand card.But stupidly the postman left it outside in my porch where my 10 year old collie ripped the box to shreds and my mam found it outside it had been raining but im not sure if the card got wet so i let it dry for a bit and seated it in my pc.So i turned it on and my power supply started making strange noises like a car revving until it finally started.Display looks perfect until i have to restart and it wont start again.So im stuck in a prediciment,as i ripped off a faulty molex and its wires as it was useless is this the cause of my problems or the graphics card?

Why did you rip off the molex connector ? just make sure the wires are not tipping off each-other. It seems some damage was done here with it all so just take the card out and leave it near a warm 'not hot' location and let it dissipate the excess water from the components and check that those molex wires are individually sealed from touching each other.

If the card relies on a molex power connector then you will have to get the molex capped with a new connector. Also to be honest, the dog could have cracked a few circuits on the board by biting it very easily. still try and get that connection fixed and try it again.

Hey thanks for the reply i checked no chips or missing caps so i think its fine it was still in the box when my mam found it.il try to explain the molex problem.It was the third molex conector and the last one i accidently standed on the molex so i it wouldnt fit into a hdd or anything else so i tried replace but in the process it got thedious so i ripped out the wires connecting it to the 2nd molex. So what should i do ? :/

did you update the Drivers of the New GC ?

examine the grahics card, pcb, board up close for tiny breaks,cracks in the printed circuits.
Take out card, reboot, pc, can you hear beeps,
does the keyboard leds come on ,put in cd ,does the cd acess light come on?does the hardrive light come on as it boots up.
if theres a onboard vga graphics,plug that in to monitor.
Could you borrow an old graphics card to try out,
even a pci card ,
not pci-e express,
pci works in any pci slot.Remove new card first ,before trying another card,
or onboard vga interface.
thats the white slot, most pcs have 2 or 3 pci slot, interfaces on the motherboard.
i would not use the new card,as if its damaged it could damage your pc
further.IS there a speaker plugged into the pc.
more than 2 beeps, usually means theres a faulty device
or hardware fault.

if molex wires are stripped,bare ,put electrical tape,on em ,separate them, to stop
a short circuit.
buy in any hardware ,2 euro shop, 40cent a roll.
make sure card is totally dry.
You could use the molex ,from the dvd drive ,
if you think the card is ok, safe to use.
is there any unusual dark,mark,spots on the grahics card ,pcb,board?

Thanks man everything is connected properly i built it myself before i upgraded the graphics card.I stripped the graphics card bare and put it in the oven for 10 minuted and left it cool for 30 mins so its definately dry i inspected it thoroghly before i put it in everything in place no cracks.1 fast beep on startup thats it.Resteated it in other pcb as its enabled for 2 gfx cards.made sure the 6 pin was connected properly it started up fine on startup except for the power supply making funny noises.no onboard gfx cards The mouse and keyboard stop working after awhile when it turns on ?

I would have first gone to An Post with the destroyed package... There are reasons they are meant to leave you a slip and not leave the parcel out in the open. Someone ****ed up.

.i,d advise you to borrow a card , from someone,preferably an old graphics card, you could buy a usb,or ps2 , mouse in a 2 euro shop,
get a ps2 mouse,and ps2 keyboard on adverts ie,

most pcs still have 2 ps2 connectors,
one for mouse, one for keyboard.
or electronic recycling finglas have ps2 keyboards .
its likely a ps2 mouse,and keyboard would work,
as they use diiferent circuits than the usb devices.

IF a drop of water fell on the pc,it could have damaged the circuits that control ,the usb, mouse ,keyboard.
IS windows loading up, is display normal/.
try and put a music cd in the drive.
i,d simply advise you to ,remove the graphics card ,try another one.
either the card or pc is faulty.
if you wanna dry something, a hairdryer , on low heat setting is safer
than an oven.
you could get a pci card on adverts ie,5 - 10 euro

The mouse and keyboard stop working after a while indicates that the graphics card has a major problem. You will need to attach another working card to be 100% sure but I am almost positive the card is damaged. you will need a new card unfortunately. I helped a friend a while back with his computers mouse and keyboard freezing 2/3 minutes after startup and also had to keep doing a hard shutdown and it was the graphics card so he bought a new one and his system is working fine now.

If i were you i wouldn't purchase a second hand card on ebay or most other places like this because a lot of people are baking their faulty cards and then selling them off as second hand cards so be careful with that. Better off purchasing a new card to be safe.

Tbh i did for christmas it was a crap 6570 sold it and picked up a 9800 gt just for cod4 promo but have to buy a new 1 is crap .

I can understand that, as the cards are not cheap, but do yourself a favour and keep away from second hand cards, it's not worth the chance of getting stung. If you are stuck for cash just look around and see if you have something that you no longer need and put it up on gumtree and build the few quid up and buy a new one. bad news i know but all you can do is save a few quid and purchase a good new one.

Fwiw its the seller who is ultimately responsible for the couriers actions (up to them to claim against). You should have asked seller for a refund as the item was not sent safely. Without the molex those cards won't work properly (same way as many high spec cards need a PCIe power connector or 2 to power the card), depending on how it was "ripped" off it should be possible to solder another molex connector on to solve that problem, although the issue may extend beyond that being the issue.
