i much prefer the newer one. And that prefer doesn't mean i like them. i drove a CLK200 a bit. Big heavy car, didn't find it a very nice place to be in in basic spec.

That said, i was in a 00 Silver Elegance last Thursday with grey leather etc., much nicer place.

merc should not have cloth interrior as an option. i am shocked too see so many mercs with paddy spec. it should be outlawed. my clk200 was fully loaded with every single extra possible. cream leather salon too. it was a lovely lovely place to be. it was not a sports car though.

    2.4 litre.

Lots of 2.5 litre can you can buy that would be a much nicer place than that to be honest!

3 months tax so thats worth 150, try NCT after you buy it and sell it on if something is too expensive to fix I guess. Looks pretty modern as well, imo.

They are such a horrible, horrible car to be in. Tbh, the boot is tiny. School run for a few teenagers maybe, and the weekly shop. Nice run around but i'd hate to have one as my daily.

Couldn't disagree more. Painfully brilliant in It's execution of doing exactly what its supposed to do. Cheeky and cheerful to drive, peanuts to run and a design classic. I've actually considered one as a daily and if one pops up for buttons, I'll be buying it.

I'm 90 odd per cent certain they're CVT transmission, not good.

What are you talking about, CVT means there is no real gear changes and so it is better than a traditional Auto torque conversion box, they can go from a low gear to a high gear extreamly fast and F1 were going to implement them but stopped when they realised whoever was using the CVT would have a huge advantage.

Cheers for that, I didn't bother reading the link as I know what CVT is etc etc. Back to the point I made, I was "on about" the CVT in that rover being a woefully fragile lump of sh1t.

" Sold as seen " in the add shouts there's something wrong with it. But you knew that already, its a 10 year old Alfa with 130k up.

I seriously need to avoid this thread, too. Every week, or so i am closer to buy a proper ( old, heavily-taxed, and not practical at all) car... The prices for those yokes are totally affordable, the only thing i worry about is maintenance, not to mention tax...

I like the leather and the fact that it is a Kombi or Estate, as we call it. Nice looking motor ;).

This looks promising, 3 months ago I wouldda snapped that up at €600. And an estate too, haven't seen one of them in the flesh myself for years.

What do you think of this one:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3441229

I think they are nice looking and I am looking for something automatic under 2k. I think this could be a bit cheaper though and the engine seems small. I am driving a 00 Bora automatic petrol at the moment but I think the cat is about to give out.

Its my first post on here. Be gentle.

That looks spotless to be honest. Cheaper in what way?

Been keeping an eye on that myself, you'd need to keep your miles relatively low and a few quid set aside for a battle fund, but it'd be a corker of a daily if you could get it down below 2k.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭percy212

Well I thought the miles were high and its a 1996. 1695 seemed like a lot for an old car but maybe jeeps are different. I don't know to be honest.

It does look like it was well kept for definite mind you. I like the look of it. Might give them a ring..and try bargaining a bit.

Those have always gone for good money, I wanted one as my first car so I have been keeping an eye on them for years, they are a jeep that is cheap to tax, insure and run in fairness there is a good market there for them and not enough saturation to drive down the price. On the bright side if you pick up a good one and mind it resale value would be very good particularly coming up to the winter if it looks like we will be having a bad one.
