    Leinster MFC 1/4 Final:

    Kildare 1-7 Westmeath 0-2 (HT)

The scoreline is deceptive. Westmeath have had plenty of ball but have kicked 8 wides. The Kildare forwards have been very economical.

    1-12 to 0-3

Ten minutes gone in the second half.

I think Hyland and Kelly ran up 1-10 between them. Brian McLoughlin and Jack Robinson kicked a brace each.

    He was introduced late on.

Houlihan and Morgan in for Tyrell and Callaghan

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

That was ugly. Defensive structure was quite effective but toothless up in the forwards with so many men playing deep and no Niall Kelly or Daniel Flynn.

This Championship is not going to end well for Kildare. Sounded like a truly awful game. :(

Put the minor team out instead!!!!

Even Callaghan in the final minutes when Kildare needed someone experienced to get them over the line seemed like a jittering nervy mess making novice errors.

No inspired leaders a la Ryan, Earley,McGrillen, McCreery. Johnny Doyle. Bolton has his moments and Eoin Doyle can provide a few spirited moments but overall its a team of individuals with no team balance.

The minors look like a proper team, with some great talents but more importantly a great team spirit.

    Anyone agree.

Only positive I can take out of it is the defensive display

Just on that, when did Kildare switch to playing like this? Is it a reaction to what Kerry did last season? They looked a mirror image of Tyrone with the two dedicated sweepers. Might suit tbh. Plenty of big strong lads in white yesterday.

Conditions were horrendous so i wouldn't be too harsh but in the second half the same old Kildare failings came to the fore. Lads taking on mad shots at the target must be infuriating to watch.

Since the league final they've worked on this. Clare had numerous goal chances in that game and in fairness something like this has been needed whether it's good to look at or not

Minor championship always takes a break for state exams. Should be a very interesting game.

Disappointing result for the hurlers today but not really surprising. We've struggled in the Christy Ring over the last two years since winning it in 2014. Another year in 2A should help.

I'd agree with that. There's no point in Kildare getting through to a Leinster Final playing nice open football and then trying to change tack completely when faced with Dublin. You're not going to perfect a style overnight and if Kildare want to try and avoid hammerings against the likes of Dublin and Kerry they have to at least trial defensive tactics in the earlier games. It's likely we will still be miles off the big guns but it would be nice to be somewhat competitive against them. Daniel Flynn and Niall Kelly will be back for the semi final and they will be two serious additions to the attack.

Tough draw for the minor footballers. I'm not convinced it is as strong a team as last year but that full forward line give them a fighting chance against anyone.

Are Moorefield favourites?? 18 points is pretty impressive, no matter what zhape Clane are in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Sarsfields are still the team to beat I reckon. Moorefield will be thereabouts but have lost a bit of experience. Athy missing a few this weekend and could find themselves up against it if Celbridge click.

Huge win for Celbridge over Athy today.

Joe Mallon Motors SFC Round 1

    Athy 1-8

    Celbridge 2-15

Big win for Towers over St Kevin's earlier. They have a gem in Matthew Kelly at full forward. He was excellent as was Mark Byrne at midfield. 1-18 is a huge score. Kevin's lack scoring forwards, they relied heavily on the two goals they got early in the game.

Two Mile House will be kicking themselves tonight. They should have put Raheens away early in the second half. Chris Healy getting a black card around 45 mins was their undoing. Paddy Woodgate and Noel Byrne were excellent for Raheens. They are in with a great shout of winning the IFC.

Clogherinkoe didn't have to break sweat against a poor Sallins side. Jack Robinson kicked some ridiculous scores for the Cloghs.

€10 for 3 games at Hawkfield today, great value.
