What - nowhere that plays both sorts (country and western :) ) ?

If you bend the Irish Trad category to include folk, then I'd put Rabbits, Barr an Chaladagh, Merry Fiddler into it. Even then, it's more rocky-folk than soft and gentle.

There are also some that do different things on different nights, eg Monroes, Arus n Gael, Spanish Arch.

Monroe's have trad music too, they have set dancing on a Tuesday for one.

Where the hell are The Merry Fiddler and Barr an Chaladh?

Also there's a pretty poor lack of Irish ballad singers and stuff in Galway, 99% of the time it's just session music.

    An Pucan isn't a late bar I don't think.

Never heard of The Merry Fiddler myself.
Barr an Chaladh is in Woodquay.

Didn't know The Crane was a late bar.

    Handy to know.

When you said "Music Policy" I was expecting some mention of which places don't play their music at an unhealthily loud volume.

Merry Fiddler is opposite county buildings. Used to be MT Pockets and many many other names down the years.

The Crane is not a late bar (unfortunately!)
They also run Blues, Americana, and Indy/singer songwriter nights

    Townhouse - Rock, some Indy

    Garavans - Trad/Ballad sessions

    Neachtains - Trad/Jazz/Americana

I'd put Neactains, The Crane and Aras Na Gael under World music too! :)

Ah yes, was called the Galway Shawl at one point too wasn't it? Was that not a pub for the gay community or whatever?

The MT Pockets down in Ennis changed their name too, perhaps it was a bit too close to home during the recession :D

Richardsons on Eyre Square sometimes have the Atlantic Pirates belting out some great ballads.

Re. An Pucan, I was drinking in there t'ill 2 bells a few Saturdays ago

The galway shawl (aka the claddagh ring) is where massimos is now.

The merry fiddler, was once called O'Malleys also. Its up prospect hill on the right heading up towards bohermore. It faces the road leading down to debenhams car park.

I can't edit the original post anymore so no more adjustments can be made :(

That's true but the pub now called the merry fiddler (formerly MT pockets and other names) was *also* named The Galway Shawl, as recently as last year. Bit confusing!

Hi, can you allow me re-edit my original Galway Pubs post indefinitely for adjustments/additions?

    Regards

Good work, OP. I would add Garvey's to the rock/pop group, as they have regular gigs. Also, are all these live music places, or are you including recorded music/DJs? (If so, I would suggest differentiating between live and not-live.)
