Makes you think just what a suitable location Vinegar Hill would make for Spielberg's talked of 1798 movie. Just imagine the same images with several thousand extras....

Like everything to do with Enniscorthy and Co Wexford regarding tourism and putting out there to tourists it would be knocked on the head before the idea left town. I wonder was any of our Elected representatives in the Government standing in the crowd thinking what JD and lots more are saying.

In small minded, myopic Enniscorthy do you really think that they'd manage to pull something like that off?

    Anyhow back on topic:

Is a training course an event?

Would definitely be interested in doing this if it wasn't on a weekday.....

    http://www.wexford.ie/wex/Departments/Planning/WhatsNew/Name,24983,en.html

Maintaining & Recording Historic Graveyards Training Day
    Where
Wednesday 5th November 2014 Presentation Centre, Nunnery Road, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford

    What?
A one-day training session on how to maintain and record memorials in graveyards. Part of a pilot project in County Wexford to conserve and care for our historic graveyards.

    Why?
    • Graveyards are a rich source of local history and genealogy and a repository of the artistic endeavors and social values of former generations.

•The character of a graveyard must be identified before undertaking maintenance works which is crucial so as not to inadvertently destroy the features that make your graveyard the unique place that is worth conserving and presenting to the public.

•In maintaining a graveyard a balance needs to be achieved between too much tidying up work that may destroy the character and neglecting a graveyard that makes the place inaccessible to parishioner and visitor. The recording of memorials is a non-destructive low-impact way of helping to conserve graveyards and the valuable information they contain.

    • Communities and individuals often enjoy recording memorials in graveyards and training can help to attain a consistent and informed approach.

    • Community recording is a great resource which can leverage other funding to help conserve church ruins etc within graveyards.

    • The outputs of such projects can make an area more attractive to local residents, visitors and tourists alike.

    Who should attend?
The seminar will be of interest to graveyard committees, community groups, parish groups, local historical societies, historians, genealogists, elected members, local authority staff and interested individuals.

    Gig goers:

    John Blek
The Sky & The Ground Candlelight Sessions
    2nd December 2014
    FREE

John Blek hits the Irish roads to introduce some new-born songs from solo record 'Cutting Room Floor' to fans around the country.

    John Blek's Cutting Room Floor

Recorded over one 20 hour session in a friend's home, 'Cutting Room Floor' is an intimate collection of 9 alt folk songs compiled by John since the release of John Blek & the Rats' last album 18 months ago. This solo endeavour began simply as a longing to document some songs that had fallen by the way side, but turned into a strong collection of live acoustic performances that needed to be shared. The process involved very little overdubs and focuses on the strength of John's lyrics and vocal performance.

Navarre, thank you so much for sharing. My 18 yr old daughter has read this book (her Xmas present for last yr) and she missed out on a chance to hear him speak already this year because it clashed with school exams. Thank you for alerting us to this. Hopefully she will get a ticket to go.

I heard Tomi speak in Gorey a few months ago and I would highly recommend going to this. My teenage daughter and I are going again and I am bringing the family . His message is as relevant today as it would have been 70 years ago.

There's a group that put on rock gigs every month in Mooney's in Wexford town (Called Wex Rox), there's one this Friday that I'm playing. It'll be very loud, and hopefully a lot of fun, so I hope to see some of you Wexford metal heads there.
