I hope the minimum that happens him is a sustained attack from Anonymous or other online hacktivists.

There is no maximum. Whatever happens him now, he deserves every last bit of it.

This is major news and nobody seems to give a sh*t. It only got a 20 second mention on Matt Cooper too.

This is what happens when a bloke who spent 4 years as the opposition expert on farming and all stuff agri related suddenly finds himself in charge of our national IT policies.

Way to go FG and Labour.

Great; countdown to the next court case against an ISP begins.

The first site to be targeted is most likely The Pirate Bay; now, consider this: The Pirate Bay does not actually host any copyrighted content (effectively, it just links stuff), so if it is successfully blocked there will be no limits to how this law can be abused (targeting any sites linking potentially infringing content).

It is an all or nothing thing now; either the courts will set a sane precedent, refusing to make ISP's block The Pirate Bay, which will then severely neuter this law, or they will set a precedent by blocking TPB, which will open a huge can of worms and will be the start of internet censorship.

Isn't it a bit odd that his home page has Youtube clips of him on RTE.. I mean, isn't that an infringement of copyright or something?

Unfortunately, this will be shown to be true. No doubt about that. But both sides would have been offering it.

    What happened in America?

People shouted at their senators until SOPA was stopped. But now they have two more bills to deal with, PIPA, and a bill masquerading as an anti child pornography bill.

    Children shouldn't be watching porn.

Did this government actually set out to do the exact opposite of what they were elected to do?

It seems they've got their heads down the back of everybody's pants but ours (not that I'd let the head of any of those feckers near my pants)

    Children shouldn't be watching porn.

Hilarious. I'm going to pretend you're actually oblivious to what I mean and reiterate that by "Child pornography" I mean "the engagement of children in pornographic acts, recorded (whether via photographic, videographic, or other means) for distribution on the internet".

Child pornography isn't a matter to joke about, so don't even try to.

Despite this, I do not think the bill is a good thing, as it is too invasive, involving tracking ALL data on the internet, and was proposed by the same man as SOPA and PIPA, and was edited to pretty much encapsulate SOPA when it failed.

Now, either make a constructive comment or fuck right off.

in basic terms, what will it mean, and how will it affect an average user like me? For example I dont download anything other than pod-casts from BBC4, I never have downloaded a film, I can't see it being worthwhile.
Any efforts I have made to read up on SOPA have ended up in me being bored to tears after the first paragraph, and zoning out.

Internet land grab by media companies means paying for stuff all over the place, and job losses too

Google images is pretty much fucked, as every image on it is technically copyright. Facebook is fucked, as if someone uploads a picture taken or made by someone other than themselves, they've breached copyright. Music review websites are fucked, because if they make a negative review of an album, the record label can say they've breached copyright if they have, say, a picture of the band, or the album cover on the article, shut them right down.

To put it simply, your internet is now going to be shaped by the record and movie industries.
