They should close down that other fella's airboat business; the noise of that thing probably has done untold damage to the wildlife. Allegedly.

    Don't consider him an idiot.
A politician who make proposals like that is dangerous to tourism, anglers, and the salmon species.
We may assume the netsmen or their lobbyists donates appropriately to get such loyal politicians who care nothing about everyone else's interests.
Just some more of what put Ireland in the mess it's stuck in.

Funny how he says that the towns future is in tourism and that there's nothing a tourist likes more than to see a few fishing boats bobbing on the river. Talk about a stretch! I'd imagine more tourists would come if they could catch salmon from the river with rod and line than would come to watch the net-boats bobbin'.

A local economic study of the net gain from a net caught salmon vs. one caught by a tourist angler would be much more appropriate.

How anyone can be so thick.
One can only despair at such stupidity.
Or was it a late April fools joke?

Was done in 2003 on a national basis, at the time the value of a wild salmon to the economy was something like €33. The value of a rod-caught salmon was €432. The study was an independent report by Indecon consultants.

They changed the meetings from Wednesday night to Monday morning and the guy holding the sit had to step down due to work thus opening the door for old Tommy boy. His family are/were fishermen and the fishermen are very happy he is there, from cleaning slipways and moving ladders to bring up the return to drift netting.

He seems to be someone for the local angling clubs to campaign against if they know how to take control of their future.
