On April 6, 2007, a rain of spiders falls from the sky in Salta Province, Argentina. Christian Oneto Gaona and his friends decided to take a trip to Salta Province during their Easter vacation. They started to hike into the San Bernardo Mountain and two hours later, they found the ground around them was blanketed with spiders of many colors, each about four inches across. They looked up, and saw numerous spiders falling from the sky.

Argentina has one of the Strangest looking Animals in the World

The Pink Fairy Armadillo is the smallest species of armadillo, growing only to approximately 3½ – 4½ inches long, excluding its tail. It is found in central Argentina, where it inhabits dry grasslands and sandy plains with thorn bushes and cacti. It has the ability to bury itself completely in a matter of seconds if frightened. Me gusta!

can I have one for XMAS ??

The Irish invaded Buenos Aires in 1807! (or at least tried).

Buenos Aires was invaded twice by the British. Once in 1806, when they held it for a couple of months until they were driven out and then in 1807 when they were defeated soon after landing.
In the second invasion, the 88th Regiment of Foot, the Connaught Rangers (“The Devil’s Own”) took part. The British troops attacked on 3 fronts, North, South and West, with the Irish troops advancing from the West, lead by Lt. Col. Alexander Duff (a Scott!). They were obliterated by the local troops who inflicted on then some 200 casualties by noon in the vicinity of San Miguel Church (Corner of today Mitre St. And Suipacha St.)
They Irish where so confident that they were being sent in a semi-suicide mission that they left their flags in HQ lest they’d be captured. Some of the other participant regiment’s flags are still being displayed behind one of the altars in Santo Domingo Church in Buenos Aires, where some of the surviving British troops took refuge and then surrendered.

These invasions contributed to South American independence as a number of local battalions were created to drive the British out. These troops were used three years later to fight the Spaniards and secure the continent’s independence in a 16 year long war.
Some of the Irish prisoners decided to stay in what today is Argentina and even joined the local troops, crossing the Andes into Chile (without blue and white ponchos as somebody mentioned earlier) and helping the independence cause.

The Connaught Rangers were disbanded in 1922 and replaced by the 1st Infantry Batallion based in Renmore, Galway.

Argentina has a very high robbery rate (2nd only to Spain) but when taking into account the amount of people, its actually quite low and dosn't figure anywhere near the top 50 when working it out per 1,000 people.
