2 of these luggage pieces are carried suitable as carry-on luggage - "fit for most airlines"

    One is an 18inch suitcase.

The other is a smaller briefcase trolley.

Would either or both be suitable as carry-on luggage for Ryanair flights?

The backpack originally priced at nearly 50 EURO. Who are they trying to kid? Taking a leaf out of TKMaxx's book I think.

Thought that myself after looking at the range today.
There's no way I would pay anything close to "their" rrp prices!

Would be a terrible marketing strategy for any company to promote inferior products on this way.

The bags are made by the same company that make the Swiss Army Knives

I always thought Vitorinox made the swiss army knives. These make the flimsier ones that have the blade snap off trying to cut the twine on a bale of hay. If their cases are anything like those, avoid!

Victorinox do make the original Swiss army knife any other make is a replica, Victorinox specialise in knives and are a well known supplier of knives to the catering and butchering sector.

However, Wenger do make excellent luggage I have their cabin bag which gets a lot of use and still looks good unlike other cheaper makes I have bought in the past.

Got one of the holdall bags yesterday. Good quality and a good size also.

    This one from their website

    http://www.wengerna.com/lucerne-lite-xlt-wheeled-tote-12444

is $40.00, yes I know it's USA and all that blah blah but..............

They want to charge us €40.00 for a similar one and have to spend (if all the rules are obeyed and they don't give extra tokens) €200.00 before being able to buy one for €40.00 :confused:

I took a look at the one similar to link above in Tesco this morning, the body of the bag seems well built, sturdy etc but the handle feels loose and flimsy, I'd think long before spending €40.00 on it - after spending €200.00 worth of shopping.

I had a look at one today which was purchased 7 years ago. It looks the exact same as the ones in Tesco but after inspecting both the older one seems much sturdier in construction and the material that it's made from seems to be a lot more durable. I am not impressed with this, seems to me that it's likely that the ones in Tesco are some kind of inferior discount range.

Both Wenger and Victorinox make Swiss Army Knives, each receiving half of the manufacturing orders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_Army_knife#Victorinox_and_Wenger

That having been said, I have looked at the bags in question and they seem pretty decent, albeit a little pricey.

EDIT: A little further down the article it mentions that Victorinox now own Wenger.

this looks like the one in tesco, but its 21 inch instead of 18 inch. I like the back pack and the flight trolley bag, price is about as much as i'd ever spend on a bag any way.

The Lidl case might seem better but it's not all about the materials. In my experience cheap cases always let me down around the seems, zippers etc. Just poorly constructed with quality materials really.

I actually think the RRPs seem a little low for Wenger, I paid €90 for one of their backpacks a year ago. A lot at the time but it's going to last me a long time due to the quality.

I'm planning on buying the 18" and 24" suitcase trolleys.

just ask a nice lookin person in there for a few.. when glassware was on i asked and got bout 50 tokens handed to me, asked for suitcase ones yesterday and girl only had small wad(17) on her at til but gave them to me even though id only made 15 euro purchase! pays to be nice to them ;-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 896 ✭✭✭geecee

I spent €21 in Tesco jervis yesterday and practically had to beg the girl for my single token!

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭RedRebel

I've got a fair few extra vouchers by picking the queue with a lad on the til and just asking "Can I get a few of the luggage vouchers there aswell? Sound" They don't care either way and usually just pass on a handful. Also, keep in mind if you spend say €40 on a piece of luggage your giving them 10 vouchers but getting 2 back (2 x €20 spent).

The collection is growing nicely :)

Good value in luggage in Debenhams at the moment. Anyone have any reviews on Tripp luggage?
I was in Tesco on Sunday and spent €150 and got no vouchers and wasn't offered any either. Do ye think if I go back will there give me vouchers for that amount.

Yes, they will. I brought in a receipt and explained that I didn't get the vouchers, and they ave them out no questions asked.

Always loads of receipts around the automatic till thingy, assuming your own purchase was less than €20, grab a receipt for more than €20, take it to the little man with the beard looking after the self service tills and get your coupon.

Harvey Normans have the original Wenger bags, they look a bit different to the ones Tesco are selling. The ones in HN have the Victorinox/Swiss Army crest on the back. The backpack in HN has loads of thingies inside and a price tag of €50 or so...
