PSA Licencing
With regard to Alarm System Installations .All professional installers must be PSA licenced.
It is illegal to employ an unlicensed company or person to install an alarm system.
With that in mind I think its fair to ask people giving advise here whether they are licensed installers or just giving DIY advice.
Because it is a legal requirement for alarm installers to be licensed, we may ask users claiming to be licensed to verify this with a moderator.(Off thread, if they wish)

Recommendations for unlicensed installers or individuals will be removed & the poster will receive a warning and/or a ban.
Any prices quoted will be taken as to include VAT. There is to be no discussion of cash prices for any work.

Not Allowed
The crime rate is high enough. We won't be helping the burglars,
There is to be no discussion on defeating alarms or any signaling equipment.
This includes linking to any sites selling equipment doing the same.

Off Topic/Flaming
Off topic & flaming comments will not be permitted here.
If someone asks for advice on a system they don't want to know that a loaded gun is better, they don't want to hear how great your dog etc. If you want to be critical of a system please try to back that up with some reasoning & examples etc.
A topic may at times naturally drift onto something a little different that's OK . If a poster is intentionally steering a thread onto something different that off topic a moderator may intervene .If requested to cease a line that's off topic please do so. If you have any questions or feel its wrong please PM the moderator in question. Do not discuss it on thread, the post may be deleted & you may receive a warning or infraction. Intervention like this is to keep threads related to their topic & to help everyone find what they are looking for.For example A user does not want to read pages into a thread looking for something about his Aritech alarm only to find an Aritech vs HKC debate. If you are asked to get back on topic do not take it personal, we are not preventing you discussing what you want. You may take it up in a new thread or onto an existing one. We may also split threads if we feel a good seperate discussion has developed.
This is a serious topic with people looking for serious advice & serious discussion. Silly or smart or sarcastic comments are not welcome here.
If you like being a smart arse go post your comments elsewhere, here they will get you an infraction. Multiple infractions will get you a ban.
Likewise this is not a chat room , idle chit chat will be considered off topic & may be removed.
Advertising
In short advertising is not allowed. However professionals here who contribute to the forum may, discreetly, post a text only link in their sig.
Openly touting for business is not allowed. Offering quotes, offering phone numbers etc is also not allowed.
If posters request recommendations these should be given via PM only. Any on thread recommendations will be deleted.
Posts opened by any user to thank someone for their service or recommending a company will also be removed and treated as free advertisement, and will be removed.

The main idea of this forum was to have those who know helping those who don't. We intend to keep it that way.
Any contributing users here ,who are in the business, may have their contact details posted in the sticky.
If someone wants to approach them then they should initiate contact.
Obvious advertising will not be permitted. Do not register a new account just to come on & promote your business. The link will be deleted & your account will be banned.
Shilling is where a company or individual comes on highly recommending themselves or giving constant praise or recommendation . Likewise when an individual constantly posts recommendations & praise repeatedly for the same company.
If someone here helps you out with something its fine to post thanks, providing it is in your own thread and/or in context to the issues you have had. Random or repetitive praise would be considered either shilling or off topic & will be deleted.

General Rules
As always Boards.ie rules apply.
In brief they include no spamming flaming, trolling, or generally acting the muppet.
Personal abuse will result in an instant ban.
Do not make any defamatory posts or comments about any business or individual.
Definition:
Defamation occurs where a false statement is published about a person which tends to lower that person in the eyes of right-thinking members of society. Defamation is a generic term – slander is defamation in a transient form, while libel is defamation in written or permanent (or equivalent) form. (From Digital Rights Ireland).
If in doubt, leave the name out.

Safety First
Remember posters here may have varying levels of skill & experience. Do not take everything as 100% correct.
You are responsible for your own actions. Remember much of the equipment discussed here will be mains powered & will contain dangerous electrical voltages.
Always isolate mains power before removing covers on any mains powered device.
Most of all do not do anything you are not comfortable with.
If you are not comfortable working around electricity then dont.
If you are not comfortable working at heights then dont.
If you are not comfortable drilling walls then dont.

Moderation

If you have a problem with any post on this forum use the report post button. (Its the red triangle) .
If there is any issue with a moderators actions discuss it with the moderator via PM . Do not derail threads arguing on thread.
This will not help your case & will result in infractions.
Do not suggest what actions should be taken by moderators on thread. This is called back seat modding & will also get you an infraction.
