When I built my house I needed planning permission from my local county council, the same council who now need me to register my septic tank. Have they not got the details there, well of course they have on paper but not on a database, you know how long it would take for then to manually go through every application that is say ten years old.
There is no database that is reliable.

The register of deeds says nothing about your septic tank. If you want to worm out of paying the fiver to register your tank, it won't help the council. Different situation. You should pay the fiver all the same.

Alastair, for a man who says he didnt vit for FG or big Phil, you sure do spend some amout of time here defending the man and the party.

I wonder how much of the public will actually share the same views as you,now that "villagate" has broken cover and Phil says he wont pay and has a right to privicy and to say no.

I wonder how many perople will have sympathy for him and defend him.

I wonder will Enda or any of his own party members defend him.

Suppose we will find out in due time

So at the deadline of midnight ONE MILLION brave souls refused to be intimidated, scared and cajoled into paying an unfair Household Tax.
Hold your heads high lads and well done. You have scared the **** out of the F.G. party. They didn't expect the majority of the population to dig their heels in and go against their wishes.
The Irish people have at last awoken and made themselves heard.

Article 43.If the state passes a law that restricts your property rights, it may be required to compensate you for this restriction.

Examples of restrictions or limitations on your right to own property include town and regional planning, protection of national monuments, compulsory acquisition of land and property taxes.

Same situation alastair. My name is in the land registry but not on a database, it's all on paper files. It would take years for them to go through the land registry to find who owns what.
I have not registered it yet no, will I, maybe, probably.

Where in the definition of this charge as laid out by the government say that it is a tax?

Ignorance of the law is not a legal defence. Plus you do know about your obligation to pay - so why lie?

Goverment had lots of lovely little obligations and prommises to me and the rest of the people of Ireland, but they so far have broken them all.

Goverment requested/asked me to pay.I said NO.

To nick a line from Amy Whinehouses song......

"They tried to make me pay the household charge, and I say NO NO NO"

he Constitution (Bunreacht na hÉireann) declares that Irish citizens have a right to own property.

"Does this Mean a Homeless Irish Citizen should by Law be given a house to Live in by the Irish State Government ? then Force him to pay the 100 Euro Tax

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,654 ✭✭✭Royal Legend

Now the LGMA don't know how many households are liable, as the socialists are claiming it is over 1.8m, where all along the LGMA and the Government were claiming 1.6m, so yet again confusion or dis-information from the government on this.

so them it looks like ONE MILLION PEOPLE DID NOT PAY :)

    It's not called a tax.
They won't call it a tax because it can be challenged through the courts if they do.

Are you seriously suggesting that to call this a tax would make it unconstitutional, but somehow, they can get around this by simply changing the name?
Someone should have thought of that the last time we had a property tax on the statute books.

Article 43 acknowledges that these rights ought to be regulated by the principles of social justice. This means that the State may pass laws limiting your right to private propety in the interests of the common good. If the state passes a law that restricts your property rights, it may be required to compensate you for this restriction.

Examples of restrictions or limitations on your right to own property include town and regional planning, protection of national monuments, compulsory acquisition of land and property taxes.

Could it be 1.8 million homes but 1.6 million home-owners?

That's just silly. There is however a picture doing the rounds, one of a FG delegate giving the finger to the protesters outside the Ard Fheis. Says it all really.

of course there is no database!!! that is why they want people to register themselves :-). So all the fools register themselves. Ireland is not Germany. German PS is intelligent well trained PS, Irish ...well :-).
They want to tract me :-)! I can sit and wait. Paddy Power could start to take bets: How long is it going to take to track a citizen who fail to pay a houshold charge! :D and how much is going to cost to pay PS to track me :D:D:D? What do you think?

Alastair...why did you yourself not pay the poll tax in England????

Id like a full explanation please.

There's a 'may' in there too. And there wasn't any state compensation required for the application of rates last time out (nor indeed for commercial rates today). I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a rebate on property taxes.
