Digging up and old one here, but is there anywhere in town now selling vinyls?

I agree with the previous posts, sounds like a great idea. Specialist sections on classical, Irish traditional music, film scores, jazz, blues... off the top of my head there is nowhere in Limerick catering to these tastes....good luck!

There is a second hand place upstairs on Little Catherine street. Have not been there in months but I got some gems there in the past.

A lot depends on what type of music you are looking for.

A lot of the music shops in Cork will carry a vinyl range for dance, rock, and classic rock/pop. Limerick does not really have that in any of the music shops and the odd time you do get anything in the local stores, the prices are crazy.

I priced two albums on vinyl in Limerick a few months back, one was Pearl Jam's Ten and the other was Metallica's Master Of Puppets (which had just been rereleased on a heavyweight vinyl), but the prices that I was quoted in the Limerick stores were almost twice the price of what it would cost to order them online, and that is not just twice the record price that is twice the cost of the record plus P&P/sterling conversion.

A friend of mine is a dj and he gets most of his stuff in Cork. He has still not converted himself to the mp3 era.

It is strange that the stores in Limerick have not started to stock more vinyl though given that there has been a big resurgance in vinyl sales over the last five years.

In fairness, I`d say they don`t stock vinyl any where because no one has any need for it and even the cd shops etc are on their last legs.

All dj`s use cd now and MP3.

The big increase of vinyl sales in the US and UK has nothing to do with people who dj.

It is for people who want to get classic albums and modern on heavyweight vinyl for superior sound than can be gotten on a cd.

If you keep an eye on releases of rock albums nowadays you will start to notice where they list the formats that it is available in that vinyl has popped back up in a big way.

We tend to be a bit behind the trends here in Ireland and generally get there a year or so later in terms on stock on shelves.

When I go back to the UK, the HMV stores there tend to have vinyl sections again where before it was just wall to wall with cds, and here it is still no vinyl or very little at best, but I fully expect that to change a little over the next twelve months.

I don't expect big sections, but would not be surprised if small vinyl sections start popping up in some of the stores here in that timeframe.

Thanks for all the great info lads. Much appreciated.

@mods - please clarify the approach to threads and topics. You see people chided here for not using the search function to find an existing thread but now you are saying I shouldn't be dragging up old threads?
