If the seller has all the old NCTs (7 in all) and the detail results shows passes with room to spare then 'it should pass - no problem'. It should have passed a year ago, and if they had not changed the rules, would still have a year to go and you would accept that.

To me thats just silly logic. Although I have myself bought cars before without NCT's or very little NCT left on them I have bought them on the basis that I might be lucky and pass the next NCT while at the same time bought them on the basis of knowing full well that I might be unlucky and fail the test.... If I'm not too unlucky fail for something small and I might have to spend a few quid on it or if I'm unlucky something so major or the sum of a number of issues as to render the car an economic write off.

Difference being I wouldn't be spending the thick of €3,000 or buying into the sellers bullsh!t that the car will pass with flying colours or fly through the test no problem, blah blah blah etc etc.

It may well end up being a costly assumption to assume it will pass again without any major problems based on the fact that it passed a year back. You cant know for certain how the car was driven or treated in the meantime.
If you need more info, ask the seller. Ask for a guarantee that it will pass or money back.

Take the car to a garage before a NCT to get checked over and although most will likely give you a good indication whether it'll pass or fail I don't think any will absolutely guarantee that it will pass. I'm not entirely sure how an individual who is not a mechanic could guarantee you that the car will pass:confused:. Aside from that I think you might find it very difficult to actually enforce such an agreement in the case of a private seller.

How stupid are people to think that these photos are sufficient to help sell their cars?

    Thats a find alright.

    Needs:

Repaint - €1500 (looks to far gone and will need spraying in parts anyway.
    Exhaust - €400
    Rear Light - €100
    Front Bumper Repaired - €100
    Battery - €60
    Rear bumper aligned/fixed - €150
    Tax & NCT (no doubt) - €750
    Alloy refurb - €400
    Aerial sorted out - €100

After all that, it MIGHT be worth €1,750 - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4441902

I bet you could have that car on the road and sorted out for under €10k!

Don't get me wrong, lovely car, 3.2 V6 is a real engine, very low miles at 32k, but its at least double the price of most other v6 GTs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,866 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

That's for sale a good long while now, you'd want to be mad to spend that sort of money on it.

    Seller needs a reality check

If I was after after a "low mileage" and "rare" 3.2 V6 there are plenty of better cars out there like the example below ... cheaper and 2 years newer

Different engine, different car, different class... I could go on but I'll save it.

    They're not comparable.

I dont recall saying they were??

If i had 12 grand to spend id rather spend 11k on an 07 R32 with change left over than spend it on an 05 Alfa coupe

I don't want to hear you lads whinging again about the price of cars until you consider what we put up with here in Oz regarding "Euro" cars...

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bracken-ridge/cars-vans-utes/2000-audi-a4-sedan-great-fix-up-car-or-spare-parts/1019859180

"I am selling my beloved Audi A4 1.8L Turbo 2000.

Comes with Sunroof, New Audio Sony Head Unit with USB and Multicolour display Airconditioner still works Power Steering Automatic Sunroof and Windows Airbags

If you are handy on European Cars this car would be reasonably cheap to fix as labour would be free.

    Found problems that need fixing.

    - Battery is flat from not running for a 2 months but just needs charging.

    - Automatic Shifter is stuck in Park

    - It seems to have lost its power slow start off the lights but once past 60km it runs normally. Noticeable going up a hill also you really need to floor it. mechanic said it could be a valve as you can hear air noise when you accelerating.

    - Possible blown head gasket

    - Small water leak when it rains seems to be coming from where the pedals are and goes to the floor behind the drivers seat.

    - Seems to overheat a little when stationary at the lights but when driving temperature is normal.

    - Warning lights for the park brake and abs always stay on even if the park brake is not being used and abs is working

    - No instruction manual or logbook

    ______

The car runs once someone fixes the shifter and charges the battery and the other fixes need fixing to get it back to its full capability.

It will need to be towed away. It still registered at the moment but will come unregistered and with no number plates.

Apart from the problems it ran beautifully when it was working, easy to drive, and great handling. I just can't afford to fix it right now due to my house mortgage although I believe it will only take 2 grand to fix but if you are a mechanic I'm sure you can fix it for far less.

I have seen this car type being sold for 9000 - 12000 so there is profit to be made.

I do have the original head unit that was replaced by the Sony one and will keep that in the car.

JBL Amplifier and Subwoofer is sold seperately but can work out a deal if you want them left in it.

Contact me for an inspection if needed or make me an offer."

If you want to show how over priced the Alfa is (which I agree it is) you should post another V6 GT, not a Golf 32.

Both are V6 hatchbacks, so it's a fair comparison.

Why the need to start sprouting rubbish like this at the end of an ad also:
"This is a car that's not far off the Pace of an M6 yet is much more rare and really sounds amazing and turns heads."

"This car is being sold for 22,500. It is only being sold if I receive an offer of this amount. No offers will be considered."

i just offered him 22 grand for his 8 year old car and he told me to piss off.

in any other country it might be a little more realistic , but in Ireland with a big petrol engine he'd be looking closer to 11k easily
