Seen it I think beside Dunnes Shopping Center Car Park?
There's construction started there alright, assuming it's for Tesco given the size of the plot they're working on

    Tis flying up...

Anyone heard whether it is going to be a regular Tesco or a Superstore etc.?

Should be a handy size. There will be an underground carpark and lifts in it.

I wish someone other than Tesco / Dunnes would open.
It would be nice to see Sainsbury's or anyone else enter the market!

I still don't get why we have 2 Aldis (Aldii?) tbh

Because Lidl wanted to go into the Barracks site but Aldi coughed up more to keep them out.

Ya, its a really poor spot and it has to be the quietest Lidl around.

I wouldn't have regarded it as quiet at all. They are one of the few with a bakery which surely means they are doing ok?

They all have bakeries in Cork, and Ballincollig by far has the smallest one.

I'll bow to your knowledge of LIDLs ! All having bakeries must be a very new thing...

For such a quiet store I always seem to find myself a long queue there!

Does the Togher one have a bakery?

If you go onto the Lidl website and type Cork into the store locater iptu says that all the Cork stores have bakeries.

Tesco building making great progress do you think ground floor is for car parking and why do stores have such high ceilings costly to heat id say.

The Tesco in Douglas is two storey. Drapery and Electronics upstairs and grocery downstairs so it might be like that.

Although I heard that Penneys might be going into the top floor as they will have to leave Wilton soon due to the redevelopment. Don't know how true all that is though. Penneys would be a real score for Ballincollig.

Pennys in the building would help draw people out to that part of town and with a bit of luck, promote further business.

I wasn't aware Wilton was being redeveloped - anybody have any links/literature on this?

Can't be too far away, job advertisements/interviews etc have begun recently.

Pennys might go into the centre, not Tesco upstairs.

There's a large unit that used to be Tesco which would work.

Penney's is competition to Tesco who want to be in that clothing space too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,169 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

I heard rumours of M&S going into a larger unit there!

It would make sense. Big demand for that kind of food in Douglas.
