Jim Herlihy's books have lots of info.
If you give a bit more info than just the surname, maybe a county, I will have a quick look for you in my copies of the books I have.

Joseph Kirwan, DMP number 11307, born 1894, Clonegal, Co. Carlow
and this might be his brother?
John Kirwan, DMP number 10899, born 1886, Clonegal, Co. Carlow

11307 would have joined some time in 1916, 10899 in 1909.
