    JAG
NCIS: LA‘s forthcoming JAG-centric arc may be more than just a nostalgia-fueled sweeps stunt. There’s buzz that the May two-parter — which will find David James Elliott and Catherine Bell reprising their roles as Navy Captain “Harm” Rabb Jr.and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie, respectively — is serving as an unofficial backdoor pilot for a JAG revival.

I agree that The Rookie is safer than Whiskey Cavalier, but aren't their ratings similar?

The Rookie's latest episode: 0.6 18-19 rating, 3.63m total viewers
Whiskey Cavalier's latest episode: 0.6 18-19 rating, 3.12m total viewers
They're pretty similar except that The Rookie has better +3/+7 figures (don't have them to hand, but IIRC they're much better). Plus The Rookie is quite a bit cheaper for the networks as it's an ABC-owned property which WC isn't. The only reason I could see WC surviving is that ABC dumped a bunch of money into advertising it, and they might want to try to make a bigger loss on L&M for tax purposes :pac:

    Utopia

John Cusack To Star In Amazon Series
John Cusack is set to star opposite Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson in Utopia, Amazon’s straight-to-series adaptation of the British drama, written by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn.

Utopia follows a group of young adults who meet online that are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization after they come into possession of a near-mythical cult underground graphic novel. Within the comic’s pages, they discover the conspiracy theories that may actually be real and are forced into the dangerous, unique and ironic position of saving the world.

Cusack will play Dr. Kevin Christie. Charismatic and media-savvy, with a brilliant biotech mind and a philanthropic outlook. Christie altruistically wants to change the world through science. Child actor and Javon “Wanna” Walton also stars.

The Amazon adaptation is a co-production between Endemol Shine North America/Kudos and Amazon Studios. Executive producing alongside Flynn are Jessica Rhoades, Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson and Dennis Kelly. Sharon Levy, President, Unscripted & Scripted Television, Endemol Shine North America, oversees production for Endemol Shine.

Utopia marks Cusack’s first starring role in a TV series

Is it worth watching? I'm struggling to get past the first few episodes.

It had it's moments and really picked up mid season 1 but season 2 ends on a big cliffhanger that will now never get resolved.

    Gifted was poor
but there was a good show in there struggling to get out .
Had some great casting but they put the two worst cast characters front and centre (Andy and Lorna) ,the tone was off , second season was all the characters moping around and scowling . The main arc in season 2 was boring and played out over too many episodes .
The first series had a few fun episodes they seemed to abandon this approach in season 2. And like a lot of super hero shows the powers were all over the place , one episode one character will look like a one man army , the next several characters will be taken down by some yahoos with a shotgun.

Shame as I think there could have been a great show in there.

Laura Donnelly To Star In Joss Whedon’s HBO Sci-Fi Drama Series
Meet Joss Whedon’s next leading lady. Laura Donnelly (Outlander) is set as the lead in The Nevers, HBO’s straight-to-series drama from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and The Avengers writer/director

Co-written by Whedon and Buffy alums Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie and directed by Whedon, The Nevers is an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.

UK actress Donnelly will play Amalia True, the most reckless, impulsive, emotionally damaged hero of her time. A menace to stuffy Victorian society, she would die for the cause and kill for a drink.

“Laura Donnelly has charisma, wisdom and an anarchic precision that not only captures Amalia but defines her,” said Whedon. “She’s fierce and she’s funny – and I need both for the journey ahead.”

Whedon, who serves as showrunner, executive produces with Espenson, Petrie and Bernie Caulfield.

Whedon is known for creating TV series with strong female protagonists, including Buffy the Vampire Slayers, headlined by Sarah Michelle Gellar and the cult sci-fi drama Dollhouse starring Eliza Dushku.

Donnelly, who hails from Northern Ireland, is probably best known in the U.S. for her recurring role as Jenny Fraser in Starz’s Outlander. Her series credits also include Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands, Britannia and Missing.

She is an accomplished stage actress who won the Best Actress award at the 2018 Olivier Awards for her portrayal of Caitlin in Jez Butterworth’s The Ferryman, directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes. Donnelly also starred in Butterworth’s play, The River at the Royal Court Theatre, alongside Dominic West, and reprised her role in the Broadway production alongside Hugh Jackman.

Donnelly, who will next be seen in a starring role in the Fox Searchlight feature Tolkien alongside Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins

    Albedo

Evangeline Lilly To Topline Mystery Drama Series ‘Albedo’ From eOne, Brad Peyton, Bell Media & Vudu
In a return to television, Avengers: End Game‘s Evangeline Lilly is set to star in and executive produce Albedo, an eight-episode mystery drama series from Entertainment One, Rampage helmer Brad Peyton and Bell Media in Canada. Peyton is set to direct and executive produce the straight-to-series project that will be internationally distributed by eOne.

Albedo has been in development at Bell Media since 2016 and is expected to begin pre-production in May. The series will be presented exclusively in Canada on Bell Media platforms and distributed in the U.S. by VOD service Vudu, a subsidiary of Walmart, making Vudu’s first foray into content.

Co-created and executive produced by writing duo Max and Adam Reid (Sneaky Pete), Albedo is set 150 years in the future. Detective Vivien Coleman (Lilly) is dispatched to the edge of our solar system to investigate a scientist’s mysterious death on board an isolated space station. She soon finds herself trapped and cut-off from Earth, along with the station’s small crew of brilliant scientists – all murder suspects – all harboring their own secrets… What begins as a classic murder mystery evolves into a fight for survival that may threaten the future of our species.

We are very proud to be working with Vudu as they make their foray into content, alongside our longstanding partners at Bell. eOne is designed to create and deliver content everywhere and that includes helping new buyers into the space,” said Pete Micelli, eOne’s Chief Strategy Officer, Film & Television. “The opportunity to have Evangeline bring Vivien Coleman to life coupled with Brad Peyton’s fantastic vision for this series will create a truly epic experience for audiences around the world,” added Jocelyn Hamilton, eOne’s President – Canada, Television.

“Partnering with eOne on this project ensures high-level international engagement, including this new collaboration with Vudu,” said Randy Lennox, President, Bell Media. “We are delighted to work with the immensely talented Evangeline Lilly and the imaginative Brad Peyton and look forward to adding this compelling unique drama to our programming lineup,” continued Mike Cosentino, President, Programming and Content, Bell Media.

“Vudu is one of the fastest-growing video on-demand services, and providing exciting original and exclusive programming like Albedo at no cost to our customers is key to our continued growth,” says Julian Franco, Vudu. “With an incredible team bringing this series to life, including actress Evangeline Lilly, I can’t wait for Vudu viewers to be thrilled when they tune in. New programming efforts like this will delight audiences and allow Vudu to offer a unique value proposition to brand partners and advertisers.”

Known for her critically praised work in Lost, Lilly most recently reprised her role in Marvel’s box office record-shattering Avengers: End Game. She’ll next be seen in the film Dreamland.

Max and Adam Reid are best known for most recently producing and writing Amazon Prime Video series, Sneaky Pete, and the eOne pilot for YouTube Premium, Dark Cargo, executive produced by Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock.

Peyton’s work includes films such as Rampage and the Netflix and Discovery Canada series Frontier.

    Willow

‘Willow’ Series Reboot Based On Film Eyed At Disney+
Willow may be returning to the small screen. A series reboot of the MGM fantasy film from Ron Howard and George Lucas is being considered at Disney+.

Howard, who directed the film from a story by Lucas, told MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that Jon Kasdan, a writer on Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been “hounding” him about rebooting the pic for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

“I think it’d be a great way to go,” Howard said. “In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”

There have been conversations about the project at Disney+, a source tells Deadline.

The fantasy film starred Warwick Davis as a reluctant farmer who plays a critical role in protecting a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her and take over the world. Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh, and Billy Barty also starred.

Should the project move forward, Howard said the title character would be a more mature Willow, older and wiser and presumably more fast with weaponry than he once was.

    Stay tuned.
