Does anyone know if there are any first-aid courses in Limerick or surrounds in Jan? Preferably an intensive 1 or 2 day type course as a cert is needed for travelling in January.

Most companies will teach roughly the same stuff in first aid courses, so the content won't vary hugely, In my humble opinion, you need to think about a couple of things.

    1) what do you need? Do you need a FETAC occupational first aid cert or an Irish heart foundation cert. Some workplaces will want these. If they're required make sure that you'll get one at the end of your course. Many places will give both certs on completion of the occupational first aid cert. These accredited courses are always a bit more expensive than non accredited courses, though the content won't be much different. So, be clear what you need if there are any specifics. If not, just shop around. Most companies charge ROUGHLY the same, but there are differences.

    2) Ring a few companies and talk to them. Although the course material is similar on many courses, you may have a style of teaching that you prefer. Or there may be particular topics you want to cover before you go travelling. By talking to a few providers, you can get a feel for whether they're enthusiastic and engaging. Also ask about how they teach. Is it mostly lectures, or mostly practical or a mix, and work out what you'd prefer.

BUt shop around. Google is your friend. There's a few firms in Limerick, and most firms will travel if you can get a few people together, especially for a one day course. Also speak to people who've done courses and ask who they used.

Remember it's a recession, so as for things like a discount if you and a mate(s) book together, or a free manual.

And make sure there's a good CPR/AED component to any course you do, as they're probbaly the most important skills you'll learn
