    Introduction-

Hello, Boardsies. I have been playing a lot of Europa Univeralis Lately. I have decided to start an After Action Report which if interesting enough hopefully will gain a following to its end!

I am running Eu3 Divine wind v5.1, along with the Death and Taxes mod. I will be running all settings on Normal. As I am making playing through this scenario, I will try make it exciting and not horribly boring. I will provide a brief narrative of all the events and how the monarchy will respond. To this end I may modify how the scenario plays out but obviously won't overdo things to the point where I have no challenge and things get complacent. By this I mean that I will create rebellions and such over issues the game cannot create.

Basically I will be playing As Tyrone, Starting During the Rule of Seán Ó Néill, anglicised Shane O'Neill (nicknamed 'Seán an díomais' meaning Shane the Proud). I will be trying to stave off English Conquest of Ireland if possible, all the while unifying the Island under the banner of the Red Hand of Ulster.

    My Ultimate Objectives-
    1. Conquer the other Irish Provinces under Native Control
    2. Liberate Meath (Míde)
    3. Unify Ireland
    4. Liberate the Briton peninsula from French Control
    5. Gain Iceland through any means
    6. Reclaim the Celtic lands of Brittany, Wales, Cornwall and Scotland
    8. Colonise the Americas
    9. Begin a new Age of Celtic Power and Consolidate the power of Seán's Dynasty
    10. You decide!

    Prologue-

Éire is in a very sorry state of affairs. Internal Fractions have allowed the English the establish a foothold in Meath for 400 years. It will be soon that these people will no longer consider themselves to be Irish, one and the same of the native population. The Reformation has become rife across Europe, The English have converted their people to follow the wicked desires of Martin Luther. In Meath, the traditional way of live is threatened not only Culturally, but Religiously.

As for the Rest of the Island, in-bickering has rendered each of the factions left petty warlords. There has not been a High King of Ireland since Brian O'Neill, around 300 years previous. We will be following the story of the O'Neill as they fight to overthrow the bonds of feudalism and strike into the heart of the British Establishment in Ireland.

    A New Age-

Shane O'Neill's Father Conn Bacach had bowed to the English expansion of the late 1530s. He traded his native title of Over-king for that of Earl of Tyrone. He also had converted to Protestantism, and elected his illegitimate son Matthew to become his heir. This did not bode well with Shane who wished to be elected as ruler based on the Brehon system, rather than the British one of primogeniture. As a result Shane slew his brother, and his title pased to Matthew's son Brian, whom Shane also had murdered. Now the title belonged to Matthew's youngest son Hugh or Aedh O'Neill, who fled to the pale for protection.

Having Eliminated his immediate rivals for the leadership, Shane had himself elected The O'Neill or the O'Neill Mor. Queen Elizabeth upon coming to the throne had decided to come to terms with Shane, now the de Facto leader of the O'Neill Clan. At a meeting in the Pale, Elizabeth Recognised Shane as the O'Neill and laid plans for him to become the second Earl of Tyrone. This was not good news for Aedh, who was in hiding after Shane's tániste or successor Turlough had Brian murdered.

After several Failed expeditions by the English Deputy Sussex, hostilities ceased and Shane recieved practically all his Demands. He now consolidated his power among the Scottish settlers, capturing Sorley Boy MacDonnell as Prisoner.

Here I will begin the point of divergance

Instead of destroying the good relations established with the English and ravaging the pale, Instead Shane decided to focus on strengthening his position at home. This would quell all hopes of ascension of Turlough or Aedh for at least the time being.

    EU3_1.jpg

Shane now realised that a politically united Ireland was the only way to defend against the English, in the long term. The Expansion by King Henry was a wake up call in the fact that it showed the Irish petty kingdoms would rather be vassals of England than unify against this outside threat. Shane believed that he should be the driving force behind this unification as the British had at least acknowledged his sovereignty without him having to pay them homage, Basically the only King showing outward resistance to the threat.

    EU3_2.jpg

It was apparent that if driven enough, with no distractions that the English could easily steam roll Ireland. The Native Kingdoms could only put up a token resistance of max, 8 regiments of professional soldiers. As a way the combat this Shane used the Discovery of the new world to his advantage. Whilst the other European powers were squabbling still, Tyrone had started to Colonise the a northern part of the Continent dubbed "America". This colony could be used as a last resort to escape from the English, help fund the war effort and if successful enough start an Age of Irish Colonise.

    EU3_3.jpg

All the while however Shane looked towards the former Celtic nations, in particular Brittany. Brittany had been conquered years beforehand by the French, but nationalist sentiment was still high. Shane could use this to his advantage, but he knew however this would put him into conflict. The French would make an excellent ally against the English, the two were mortal foes. This would come at the price of many wars and possible French betrayal to the British. It was obvious that Shane needed to exploit a French alliance to his benefit, and when they were weakest, rise up the Britons in revolt.

    EU3_4.jpg

As for an Economy, to be expected there was not much established. Tyrone was losing money fast, and at the cost of inflation and low research Shane had to increase the circulation to stop his nation going under.

    EU3_7.jpg

Immediately as a way to gain money, Shane sent out his 2 merchants to the merchant leagues of Genoa and the Hansa

    EU3_13.jpg

Taking advantage of Religious strife to fuel the treasury, Shane pocketed a cool 40 ducats.

    EU3_12.jpg

Like in financial terms, Ireland had little to offer in Statesmen.

    EU3_10.jpg

To further his plans with his recent income of ducats Shane recruited a regiment of mercenaries. Connacht, although in monarchical trouble refused his royal marriage offer. They would be first to fall.

    EU3_11.jpg

Already within a month Shane's reforms had caused the general populace to gain an admirable respect for his abilities as a leader.

    EU3_14.jpg

Shane began to plot the downfall of the Connacht. His army was double that of Connachts and they had no allies, Ripe for the taking

    EU3_15.jpg

Tale of the Tape: Shane gallantly lead the army which decimated those of the O'Connor. Historians question his involvement in the battle, but many are certain that Shane led the charge against O'Conner, his free shooters pushed back the enemy lines, and the mercenary cavalry cut down the routing forces.

Over the course of the conquest O'Conner raised many regiments, all were swiftly defeated by O'Neill.

    EU3_16.jpg

More success came, in the form of successful establishment of the Irish colony in the west Atlantic.

    EU3_17.jpg

In a risky opportunity the O'Neill Decides to support English rebels. Some historians consider this a minor matter however, in light of future diplomatic agreements between the two powers. This hits the Irish treasury hard, and is considered one of the Great O'Neill's more obvious blunders.

    EU3_18.jpg

As a result the treasury goes into considerable debt for such a small country. Support seriously wanes for Shane, those in the Royal Court begin to question the rule of Shane. Some of the lesser Nobles begin to question their support of Shane.

    EU3_19.jpg

Shane is forced to take a loan of 30 ducats to cover his debt. This puts him in an awkward position if he cannot raise the funds required to pay it pay, and possibly be stuck in a cycle of borrowing.

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_20.jpg

Troubles begin in the Colony. Without the necessary funds to make an agreement, and risking losing face if allowing the natives to live in peace, Shane must make a huge moral decision and at the bequest of his nobles massacres the natives. Natives of what is now Canada recall this incident as an infamous attack on their liberty and this sets the stage for later native troubles in the region. Contemporary support for these actions quote Shane saying "Our lord directed me to conquer these lands" but modern day historians know that Shane was not a very spiritual man, and confided in his wife Catherine MacDonnell that this decision haunted him for years, particularly as it resonated with him as a reversal of his own situation.

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_21.jpg

The O'Neill's situation changed when Tyrone experienced a revival in its economic prosperity. However there were still issues over the conquest of Connacht which had began nearly half a year earlier, and when it would end. Ireland's warriors were more suited to petty warfare rather than full out conquest, this drove a wedge between those in the Clan who believed Shane should simply receive the traditional tribute and leave, and his supporters who believed the end was in sight. O'Connor did his best to increase these tensions from afar, hoping to instil enough support in Aedh's claim to secure his ascension, and then when least expected to turn Shane's plan against him with his own invasion.

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_22.jpg

The Bureaucracy was expanded in what was a lauded move nationally for Shane.

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_23.jpg

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_24.jpg

Shane's Diplomat from the English Court, Edmund Fitzwilliam reported that Queen Elizabeth had entered a royal marriage with Munster. Upon here death a personal union between the two countries would be lead by the O'Brien family. Realising an opportunity for to further himself, Shane sent Fitzwilliam back to the English court with a marriage proposal from himself.

    http://s1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg534/Farcheal/Europa%20Univeralis%203%20AARs/EU3_25.jpg

In a complete twist of Fate England accepted Shane's offer. If Elizabeth died without a heir, Shane himself would become king of one of the most powerful nations in the western world. He knew however, even if it did come to pass, it would not last long. Even with him being in far more prestige than the O'Brien family, England would not long accept a king from what they viewed as a backwards and savage nation. Shane, having thought carefully knew his plan. First he would finish with the O'Connor, and then the O'Brien family. The combined prestige would beat off any lesser nobles who tried to gain the throne themselves, from another nation. If he became the head of the English nation, even for a short while, he could simply grant himself back Meath, his ancestral seat of kingship, allowing his to become the High King of Ireland. However Shane knew these plans would be unlikely to come to fruition.

As a result of Shane's good management techniques Tyrone is picking up well as a nation. The conquest of Connacht is nearly completed and Tyrone's colonies are growing very quickly.

    EU3_1-1.jpg

A few of the World 1563

    EU3_2-1.jpg

Seeing that the Scottish Throne is in troubles, Shane pledges for another marriage

    EU3_3-1.jpg

As to quicken the surrender of the Connacht Garrison, Shane commissions a bombard to replace the now defunct cavalry

    EU3_4-1.jpg

The Mercenary cavalry now have no purpose in seiging the fort, and are too costly to upkeep as a reserve force. As a result they are disbanded

    EU3_5.jpg

As the siege continues, O'Connor desperately continues to raise forces in vain. The court of Connacht contain in trying to make feeble peace settlements with the great O'Neill

    EU3_6.jpg

Celebrations start for the first time in months as Tyrone reaches a new level in naval engineering

    EU3_7-1.jpg

Shane receives a major setback when Elizabeth gains a heir. He must continue to plot the return of the fifth province through other means

    EU3_8.jpg

On the advice of an old Breton Merchant, Guion Berthou in the court, Shane continues his colonial ventures. Although this is bregruding, after the events in the previous months.

    EU3_9.jpg

A minor reform is now viewed as one of the steps Shane took that was important in Modernising Ireland

    EU3_10-1.jpg

Shane receives two great successes through his messengers on the 10th of May. His colonisation has been successful, and the Connacht garrison after a year of constant warfare has surrendered. Major celebrations unfold as the first step in Shane's unification is completed.

    EU3_11-1.jpg

Immediately Shane sends out envoys to settle the annexation of Connacht. He grants guarantees of protection to those nobles who gave way to support them. However, the O'Connor escapes to the court of Leinster to see another day.

    EU3_12-1.jpg

The people of Connacht accept the demands on the 14th of May. Shane would be more joyous had he not so much rum at the party in the days beforehand :P

    EU3_13-1.jpg

By the end of the month however an unknown foe has risen the peasantry against Shane. He manages to subdue them with the promise of more freedoms. Contemporaries blamed the hostilities on the O'Connor. However historians view it as a combination of secret plotting by Shane's Tániste Turlough and Aedh, however it seems as it was abandoned before it was fully implemented. Shane took an important step in the views of many historians to modernising, the leaders of the planned revolt were spared. This lost him some domestic support amongst the Nobility who viewed it as a tradition which Shane was strangely violating. Shane knew however that the key to stopping such rising was appeasement and reform, not brutal action.

After the success over Connacht, much of the court of Tyrone had now focused on expanding the fledgling colonies in North America.

    EU3_2-2.jpg

There was a un-eventful start to a new period in Shane's rule. Envoys on 7th June revealed that a new Pope had been elected, Clemens VIII. Tyrone had also began to recover from a recent stability hit.

    EU3_3-2.jpg

In a completely shocking move, the Hiberno-Norman Aristocracy in Ulster moved to support Protestantism. Shane now had the added responsibility for dealing with religious unrest in his own homeland, along with what no seemed apparent, more English interference. Weknow know the English and Scottish settlements instilled by Henry were now being expanded upon by Elizabeth. However, Shane was not going to take this lying down.

    EU3_4-2.jpg

A quick luck at the British Isles is shocking. (Catholic yellow, Protestant blue, Reformed light blue). Wales, Northern England and Cornwall were still Catholic. Meath still held out against the protestants, but Ulster had fallen. Shane knew that he could subdue the dissenters through active missionary work, but now was excited at the prospect of religious liberty being another footing for a campaign against the English.

    EU3_5-1.jpg

Shane had now obliterated any remnant of Connacht as a political state.

    EU3_6-1.jpg

In an attempt to cull the attempts of the Reformation spreading, Shane chooses to embrace the counter-reformation. This will allow him to more easily dispel the growth of protestantism in Tyrone, at the cost of relations with heretic nations.

    EU3_7-2.jpg

The discovery of even more provinces in the new world reaches Shane's ears. This is good news for the planned expansion of Ireland.

    EU3_8-1.jpg

Ireland's statesmen are somewhat more appealing when Shane decided to change his advisers. Shane elects to follow the advice of his court and picks a master of mint to deal with his rising inflation; A colonial advisor to deal with his expansion; and finally a better Artist to make the country more stable and better his choice of advisers in the future.

    EU3_9-1.jpg

A hostile situation with the merchant class leads to Shane deciding to move more toward free trade. This avoids a confrontation with peasantry regiments rising.

    EU3_10-2.jpg

Hearing of possible Danish expansion near his north Atlantic settlements, Shane increases colonisation in that immediate area. Modern Reports from Dane ships reveal indeed, they were scouting the area.

    EU3_11-2.jpg

In a minor issue, Ulster's tax rate drops, but Shane manages to arrange a payment of ducats.

    EU3_12-2.jpg

Historians question Shane's motives in establishing a Colony so close to Spanish Interests in the South Americas. Here-say from that time period seems to indicate the Court of Tyrone pressured Shane to try contain the Spanish into their loose boundaries by establishing a frontier.

    EU3_13-2.jpg

This report of successful colonisation strengthens Tyrone's hold over the area.

    EU3_14-1.jpg

Another modernising move for Tyrone sees the Liberal Classes gain a hold in the Royal Court.

    EU3_15-1.jpg

Tyrone's Colonisation in the mid Atlantic succeeds to the joy of many.

Interesting and amibitious goals, should make an interesting AAR.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

    EU3_16-1.jpg

More English interference in Tyrone becomes dominant, when Sussex tries to convince the Scottish Settlers to rise up against Shane. Shane resolves the situation after heated exchanges with the settlers, and Sussex but loses some domestic stability for refusing to act against England. He manages to restrain the nobility for at least the time-being from taking arms against the English. However, this interference gives Ireland a viable Casus Beli against England if the opportunity soon arises to strike.

    EU3_17-1.jpg

Shane sells some minor offices in the court in exchange for vital funding.

    EU3_18-1.jpg

An opportunity to repent for his previous actions in the North Atlantic, Shane acts immediately to help the Natives of his newest Colony. However this comes at a rather large price. This move is lauded as a show of compassion by what is viewed as an otherwise Ruthless Leader.

    EU3_19-1.jpg

In a minor matter on the Content, the Holy Roman Empire moves closer to unity.

    EU3_20-1.jpg

Tyrone manages to pay off its debt, and things seem to look well for the immediate future economically.

    EU3_21-1.jpg#

In a massive show of luck, Tyrone hits a gold rush, resulting in a massive increase in treasury funds.

    EU3_22-1.jpg

Military research reveals the advantages of newer cannons. Shane's Military grows further on the road to domination.

    Subscribed, love AARs

You should give your colonies Irish sounding names or name them after rulers or advisors for flavour, like Ballyshane or New Derry etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

I do believe the mod I am using Death and Taxes (5.1) does this for you. It prompts you beforehand however. For instance, check the earlier screen shots, Ulster becomes Ulaidh. However from what I remember the Irish list may not have been finished, but more prominent ones such as Britian, Portugal, Spain, France etc all have been done. Also, this mod adds in a Roman Empire which is formable, and it can have its own colonies which are renamed to suit Roman style!

I'm wary on what style to use, does the narrative of the country as a whole, or being tied in with the monarchy sit with you better? I chose Shane as he is my namesake, and as quoted by Sussex "had more pride than the devil himself". A more personal tone would involve different advisers and such.

Il try get at least 1 update down a day, unless Im very bogged down. These are all stuff I did last night, so its pretty much happening as I tell it. As its in construction and so few replies, Im worried it will not be at all successful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Krusader

I think going the country as awhole route suits EU AArs better while character driven ones are suited to CK, I wouldn't worry about people not posting feedback, if you look you've had over 150 views, not everyone is going to be compelled to reply.

I'm looking forward to the succesion war between yourself and munster, if you win and are struggling to hold England together, you should break it up to lessen its power in the region

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

Did I not mention, Elizabeth has a heir. Silly me. Im just hoping Britian and Frabce get dragged into some war so i can sent patriots and such in. Previous attempts to do so in France make Breton nationalism unlikely. Wait to the colonies start rakin in the money, i hope to establish virginia and massechustats soon. Denmark is the first power i hope to come into direct conflict with. Portugal is set to inherit Spain!

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

As the colonies expand, Tyrone has now become a regional power in Western Europe. Although the treasury hangs in the balance as debt mounts, will the colonial expansion pay off?

    EU3_1-4.jpg

In a show of this new found power, Scotland offers alliance. This is very good news, should Shane ever decide to attack England, he will have an ally who will act as a buffer and absorb the initial English onslaught.

    EU3_2-3.jpg

Scotland drags Tyrone into a war with some Indian nations, although this is largely symbolic and nothing comes of it

    EU3_3-3.jpg

In stroke of luck, Tyrone receives the opportunity to significantly increase the population of one of its colonies

    EU3_4-3.jpg

    EU3_5-2.jpg

The work of Guion Berthou in the Hansa pays off very well for Shane. Not only does it force some German minors out of the station, but Tyrone has the largest share of the overall profit.

(I have no idea how this happened, I didn't cheat, hadn't enabled autosend, and throughout the entire game have sent 6 merchants to Lubeck)

    EU3_6-2.jpg

One of the North Atlantic colonies starts producing Fur as an export, to the Delight of the Royal Court

    EU3_7-3.jpg

Shane also steps up the establishment of newer colonies as he sends settles upwards from the Seminole outpost.

    EU3_8-2.jpg

In a shrewd diplomatic move, Shane claims the throne of Mantua. When the current monarch dies, it will become a junior partner in a personal union. Taiwan is also discovered.

    EU3_9-2.jpg

After the loss of some relations, Shane decides its time to step up on the Irish Unification with the Invasion of Leinster. In the initial barrage the O'Conner of Connacht escapes to Meath.

    EU3_10-3.jpg

More Colonial success means naval supplies are exported overseas.

    EU3_11-3.jpg

Tale of the Tape: Shane crushes Leinster's armies within days of this declaration. However, the O'Connor rises up a huge band of refugees, and sympathisers to conquer Meath. Once the conquest of Leinster is completed, Shane will have a lot on his hands.

    EU3_12-3.jpg

A quick look reveals Tyrone's large settlement area in eastern Canada

    EU3_13-3.jpg

More Success for the economy secured through colonial exploits

    EU3_14-2.jpg

A rush of Colonists greatly benefits Shane's plans in the New World

As Shane expands both domestically and overseas, revolts begin to spread from neighbouring provinces to his own lands. England continues to enforce its will in Ireland, and Spanish and Portuguese Colonial interests come into conflict with Tyrone.

    EU3_15-2.jpg

Shane takes another step towards a United Ireland. The siege of Leinster is won. England practically begs for a conflict when it embargos Tyrone, however Shane must resolve domestic issues before this can be taken further, when O'Connor starts to siege Connacht.

    EU3_16-2.jpg

Shane gains another Casus Beli against England. Leinster is incorporated as a province of Tyrone. The revolt of O'Connor continues. The first army marches to bring down this resurgent threat.

    EU3_17-2.jpg

Tyrone gains a national bank, this reduces some inflation, and increases loan size. Financial difficulty is cooled for now.

Are you going to colonise all the east coast of america, it will block other countries from getting a foot hold there

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

in a bit ahead in my game, and things are looking like Tyrone will be dominating the North American Continent. There has been some French and Swedish boats sailing about canada and the northern usa, which Im sorta wary about.

Main thing Im worried about is beating this rebbellion in Connacht! and I really am praying the colonies will pick up some time soon as my treasury is literally flatlining.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

With so many events happening both on the Home front and overseas, Shane has forgotten the colonial ambitions of other European powers. But fear not! plotting for their downfall has already begun....

    EU3_1-5.jpg

Shane sends Elizabeth a treaty granting her troops access to his land, until the threat of the Connacht Rebellion is dealt with. Shane's armies at home don't have the strength of numbers to stop the revolt yet.

    EU3_2-4.jpg

Tale of the Tape: Shane's forces combine with the English in one massive thrust which utterly routs the O'Connor's army. O'Connor himself is captured 4 miles west of the Battlefield. He is quickly moved to Shane's fort in the Fews region of Ulster.

Serious questions are risen about just how far Shane is willing to go to achieve his goals. Not only has he given access to Irish lands to the English, he has helped them put down a revolt which had literally captured Meath. Behind closed doors more attention is drawn to Aedh, which traditionalists strongly believe should be put be proclaimed the O'Neill.

Shane also receives an alliance offer from the Von Habsburgs of Austria, a very strong power in central Europe. This will be very useful if ever Shane decides to go into open conflict with the English.

    EU3_3-4.jpg

Shane receives a double blow overseas. The Swedish have undeniably colonised an unknown part of the Eastern Seaboard, and the natives have revolted destroyed much of one of Tyrone's mid Atlantic colonies.

    EU3_4-4.jpg

Shane sends orders for a small force of 3 regiments to be sent to the North Atlantic colonies to survey how far Sweden's attempts have reached.

    EU3_5-3.jpg

Scout reports reveal that Sweden has set up dozens of small settlements along the coast of Massachusetts. Shane knows he must act quickly before the Swedish can expand enough to threaten his own settlements which they have cleverly split in the middle.

    EU3_6-3.jpg

Upon seeing even more Colonial activity above the mid Atlantic, Shane decides to have his scout force explore the coastline so more settlements can be set up before the Spanish, French and English explorers can return with their own settlers.

    EU3_7-4.jpg

Shane seems England has gotten involved in a colonial conflict in India. This makes it even less likely they will defend Sweden from Irish attack as defender of the Faith.

    EU3_8-3.jpg

Due to the large increase in Irish population one of the North Atlantic colonies is renamed to reflect Irish Authority in the region [Told ya!]

    EU3_9-3.jpg

Guion Berthou's fiscal management makes even more strides in the Hansa. Tyrone now controls a monopoly on trade. A minor celebration is held in Ulaidh to lift the spirits of the citizens

    EU3_10-4.jpg

Shane's force meets tribal resistance whilst exploring southwards

Tale of the Tape: Although only a small force, Shane's expeditionary army crushes native resistance within the each day of revolt. [generally]

    EU3_11-4.jpg

    The men reach the coast!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Krusader

    Nothing Irish about those names

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

Must have the setting to rename to modern names. Il change some of the names tonite, and sweden will fall!

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

Having reached the coast between His two largest settlements, Shane decides everything is in place to deal with the Swedish threat. Shane is quite confident that he has boxed them into "New Sweden" and victory will be swift.

    EU3_1-6.jpg

The war looks very much in the favour of Tyrone. Scotland have came through on the alliance, unlike the habsburgs. The only real power on Sweden's side is Brandenburg. Their alliance is also Fighting in Russia and the Baltic.

    EU3_2-5.jpg

The coast has been found and Shane orders more settler to colonise it.

    EU3_3-5.jpg

Shane's scout force sets out the crush the swedish before they can respond.

    EU3_4-5.jpg

Tale of the Tape: Shanes armies meet little resistance, the tribals fall quickly. The settlers didn't revolt. Shane looks to have pocketed 3 new colonies, especially with the swedish homeland being overun by the scottish and peasent revolts.

(My keyboard is broken so it may be a while before i can update)

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

The Swedish have not relented and ceded their territory. Tyrone has occupied their Colonies. Wars in the Baltic with the Commonwealth seem their up-most concern. Scotland sees its chance to invade the weakening Swedish Homeland, as the rebels have cut the territory in half.

Southwards the Spanish are crumbling in over-extension. Rebels and Nationalists run rampant in Iberia, the Americas and Low countries. It seems the Spanish will lose some of their Burgundian holding, as they create the vassal state of Belgium. However Gelrian nationalists control much over the upper states.

    EU3_1-7.jpg

The colonies are not yet making a profit. A constable will help uptake some of the taxes in the biggest settlement.

    EU3_2-6.jpg

After converting much of their dominions to protestantism the English "strive for a tolerant society"

    EU3_3-6.jpg

Shane marries into the new Belgian Monarchy. This will possibly prove useful if he ever needs to strike at the Spanish.

    EU3_4-6.jpg

The ruler of Hainut has been excommunicated. This has the possibility of being useful in the future.

    EU3_5-4.jpg

The natives are getting more and more restless. Shane has to take action to prevent a bloody massacre in the Mid Atlantic.

    EU3_6-4.jpg

Looking at Hainut, this is a very ideal time for expansion, especially with the Belgian alliance, but it seems Hainut has some powerful allies.

    EU3_7-5.jpg

Some of the colonies are booming economically, Shane leaves them to relative autonomy. Colonial Borders are also expanded.

    EU3_8-4.jpg

The Spanish play tag with rebel forces. Although unlikely to win, nationalists have sprung up from all former nations in the Spanish homeland.

    EU3_9-4.jpg

Shane pays back a large loan, but the happiness is short lived when one of his
    most trusted advisers dies.

    EU3_10-5.jpg

As expected he brings some new blood into the court, the highlight of this being a brilliant master of mint.

    EU3_11-5.jpg

Aachen is in succession trouble. Shane swoops in the try remedy the problem

    EU3_12-4.jpg

As expected, Tyrone is to form a personal union with Aachen should the throne not produce a heir, although this is likely.

    EU3_13-4.jpg

Shane receives the shocking news that his tániste, Turlough is horribly ill with a fever. Given the option of prayer or medicine, Turlough's life hangs in the balance.

    CLIFFHANGER!

    Looking good farcheal!

The Swedish as persevering in their engagements, both overseas and in the Baltic. Obviously they believe they can win, as they would have jettisoned their menial colonies in a peace settlement. Meanwhile Tyrone has a succession crisis when Shane's Tániste Turlough dies. A debate ensues over who should become Shane's new successor. Support for Aedh whom Shane deposed is high but Shane names his young son Einrí as heir.

    EU3_1-8.jpg

Einrí is named as current heir to the throne of Tyrone. Undoubtedly be contested in the Future, as is the custom in the sept's of Irish clans.

    EU3_2-7.jpg

A quick glance in the east brings bad news. Russia and Sweden have preformed a brilliant counter-attack against the Commonwealth. With Most of Lithuania being occupied by enemy forces, it doesn't seem long until they will surrender. This is bad news for Tyrone, as this means that Sweden will have more men they can use to confront the Irish when they choose to strike. Brandenburg is slowly freeing the southernmost provinces from Scottish control, which will further decrease our war-score.

    EU3_3-7.jpg

Denmark sends an envoy with a marriage proposal to Tyrone. Shane accepts it. Although he hopes to gain Iceland as a strategic point in the north Atlantic, this means he will be more likely to go the rout of hopefully gaining a claim to the Danish throne.

    EU3_4-7.jpg

Austria renews their alliance. In a quick test, Shane asks the Von Habsburgs to intervene in the Baltic. They refuse and again, the alliance is broken. This would have been an ideal early end to the war, but it seems Sweden is quickly gaining the advantages.

    EU3_5-5.jpg

We will remember the twice-fold treachery of the Von Habsburgs

    EU3_6-5.jpg

The palatinate gains military access to the occupied province through Wuzberg. Although they have a large force for such a small country at 20 regiments assaulting the fort, it is unlikely they will win as Brandenburg is not far north and allied with Saxony, the Palatinate's chief enemy.

Tale of the Tape: As I predicted, the Palatinate forces were driven out by a large combined force of Brandenburgians, Swedish and Saxons. There are a total of at least 60 enemy regiments in the confines of Saxony. The Palatinate must pray the Swedish alliance never gain access to their homeland.

    EU3_7-6.jpg

Shane sends his 5 spy's to try incite a revolt in the Saxon capital.

    EU3_8-5.jpg

These attempts are however futile and all return empty handed.

    EU3_9-5.jpg

Saxony is response to my attempt sends spies all across the lands of Tyrone. However these are all minor local events and easily put down without serious military intervention. Shane now gains a personal slight against the Saxons.

    EU3_10-6.jpg

Saxony offers the court a laughable peace-deal as a settlement. Shane promptly turns it down.

    [Sorry I didn't update for a while....just tired]

Do you reckon the Swedes will travel to fight, if you hold their colonies for 10 years you gain them automatically, right??

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

Id reckon so, especially with Brandenburg to secure them on the continent. I think they are likely to take on the scots, as i have 15 regiments in Connacht and a few boats sailing around.

I've seen them invade England when in a weak position. This caused northumberland to rise as the new english nation, naples to gain control of kent, and cornwall the control wales and themselves.

No chance of allying with Kalmar Denmark to act as a buffer

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

No, they are allied with Brandenburg. Its going to be a long war.... Im hoping to get a strong ally by bribing the hell out of them. Then bring them into the war, take that, Von Habsburgs!

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

As Sweden's position strengthens, that of Shane's weakens. No longer was Sweden focusing on the Baltic, they and their allies were getting ready for war. Shane knew that he had to strengthen his own position to survive and began plotting. It seemed as if a pre-emptive strike would be needed before the Swedish could launch their own assault.

    EU3_1-9.jpg

Another blow comes for Shane when the nation of Russia enters the conflict on the side of Sweden. Russia's huge power will have a massive effect on the outcome of the war, and as a result become the leaders of the opposing alliance. Shane strengthens ties in Northern Italy with Ferrera and Mantuna

    EU3_2-8.jpg

After months of negotiations, Shane manages to get the Portuguese court to formally declare themselves an Ally of Tyrone.

    EU3_3-8.jpg

Meanwhile in the low countries, Gelre has arisen as a nation once again, due to Spanish weakness. They gain much of the Netherlands and the Spanish pose no real resistance. In a very strange occurance, Two different Belgium's have emerged in the area. Seriously. The flags are just inverted

    EU3_4-8.jpg

A plea to the Portuguese crown is placed by Shane for Military intervention. Tyrone stands tensely in wait for a agreement. The nobility are uneasy and call out the idea as ridiculous

    EU3_5-6.jpg

Portugal enters the War on the Side of Tyrone. With a major colonial power on his side, Shane has undoubtedly increased his odds of victory. The Portuguese navy will no doubt offer a large barrier against an invasion from the Baltic alliance.

    EU3_6-6.jpg

Brandenburg sends Shane a pitiful peace deal, no doubt to cause unrest among the court.

    EU3_7-7.jpg

In a very fortunate occurrence, the printing press is adopted b y Tyrone, and as a result the research of the state increases dramatically

    EU3_8-6.jpg

In a very sudden twist of fate, Sweden is offering very acceptable peace terms to Shane. However, Shane was not in conflict for money, the colonial land was his goal. Ethiopia is called into the war by Russia in a nominal but symbolic gesture of opposition.

    EU3_9-6.jpg

Scotland conquers another province in Sweden. They go into open conflict with the Swedish military forces seiging a Scottish occupied fort on the cost.

Tale of the Tape: The Swedish forces completely rout the numerically superior Scots and drive them further inland to the next occupied province of Varmland.

    EU3_10-7.jpg

Shane holds favourable terms against the Swedish, but decides to hold out for the best deal he can get

    EU3_11-6.jpg

He manages to get a reluctant white peace from Brandenburg which is a major blow to the security of the Swedish and their other German allies.

    EU3_12-5.jpg

This peace deal cuts Saxony off from any outside help, meaning Palatinate reconquest of Franken is quiet likely. Lunberg although a minor threat also loses its protector.

    EU3_13-5.jpg

Although at a slight lose against Saxony, Shane sends a white peace offer in hopes that war exhaustion will force the Saxons to contemplate surrender, which in the end they accept.

    EU3_14-3.jpg

The leader of the Baltic alliance, Russia makes peace with the Palatinate. This is worrisome for Shane, but only a minor matter.

    EU3_15-3.jpg

The Swedish continue to seige, whilst the Scottish manage to escape complete defeat. In a strange blunder the Scots force suffers miscommunication with their leader and march back to face the Swedish. As a result, the Scots are mercilessly slaughtered and lose their presence in the Baltic

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

With the Portuguese raiding the Baltic Coast, and the lose of Allies left right and centre in the Baltic alliance, a Swedish Victory seems very Stark. Russia has yet to act on their alliance in more than diplomatic threats, it seems that Shane will have his way again.

    EU3_16-3.jpg

Luneburg entered the war as a gesture to their overlord Brandenburg. It makes sense for them to leave now, or so Shane saw it.

    EU3_17-3.jpg

In a minor hit, Sweden takes Ostergotland from the starving Scots garrision. Neverless, Shane's shrewd diplomatics hit harder than any Swedish military threat.

    EU3_18-2.jpg

Shane pays off a rather hefty loan, in a show of good faith. Following Shane's example, the Russians make peace will many of the smaller states involved in the war through their allies.

    EU3_19-2.jpg

As exhaustion is creeping up in the homeland, Shane decides it is time to take his prize from the Swedish. It seems likely that the Swedish will relinquish their
colonies, and sever ties with Russia.

    EU3_20-2.jpg

As it seems likely to succeed, Shane goes for broke. Although he cannot seem to reward the Scottish, he manages to gain the colonies, destroy Russian-Swedish relations, and pocket a sum of 325 ducats

    EU3_21-2.jpg

A breathless envoy reveals the best news in years. Without having to fight a single battle Shane has left the Swedish reputation in tatters. Now his Colonial empire meets as the Settlers pay homage to their new overlord.

    EU3_22-2.jpg

As too ease the transition, Shane decides to assimilate the Swedish settlers into Irish culture.

    EU3_23-1.jpg

Shane brokers a peace deal with Ethiopia. This leaves only Russia opposing the Great Colonial Alliance.

    EU3_24-1.jpg

3 pieces of news come on one day. Tyrone's navy goes from strength to strength and is now able to produce Galleons. Shane has received a viable casus beli against the Von Habsburgs, but will not in this state act on it.

    EU3_25-1.jpg

Shane easily convinces the Russian crown to accept peace in a conference held in neutral Belgium. Now the might of the Tyrone has bested the Huge Power of Imperial Russia

    EU3_26.jpg

A look at the world at the end of 1576. The Ottomans are rising fast as the de facto ruler of Eastern Europe. They strike at the heart Russia, cutting off some provinces and forcing release of vassals, in true osman style. In the West the Von Habsburgs make war with an vast alliance of small states. Somehow the Ottomans get dragged in but it seems like it will be a short fight. The Ottomans are now caged in and losing land to Persia and Austria. They better watch the Russians don't strike.

    EU3_27.jpg

Unrest of Natives destroys yet another Colony. This feeds the anguish at home at the effectiveness of the Tyrone system of government. Shane sends the navy to wipe out the vast network of piracy in the North Atlantic. No doubt one of his Baltic foes is the cause of this.

    EU3_28.jpg

In an accurate prediction, Belgium finally break their alliance with their cousins in Hainuit and make war. Shane starts to organise for aid to his Flemish allies, but it will not be until the scum piracy is removed.

    EU3_29.jpg

Tale of the Tape: The proud navy of Tyrone wipes the floor with the under equipped brigands. However no ships are captured.

    EU3_30.jpg

Good tidings reveal another 2 colonies have become self sustaining.

  • Registered Users Posts: 277 ✭✭Farcheal

After the end of the Baltic War, a long awaited peace falls across Shane's dominions for a short while. This is not long lived, as the Navy moves to secure victory in Hainut. The Ottoman wars continue in the Balklands and Persia, it looks like they will be losing a lot of their recent gains. The House of Von Habsburg has struck at the ideal time to save their brethren in Croatia and Hungary.

    EU3_31.jpg

As he is dragged into a small regional conflict, Shane orders the navy to return home as to transport a token force to the Low Countries. However half of his transport ships are lost to the sea

    EU3_32.jpg

With little of a navy remaining, Shane orders the Ships to harbour in Connacht, it seems that Tyrone will have to sit this war out.

    EU3_33.jpg

The court of Hainut makes a terrible peace offer and sends it to Shane. The envoy is executed quickly. Belgium slowly seiges the province with a force of 10 regiments, having wiped out any opposition they received.

    EU3_34.jpg

Good news reveals that Poland has consolidated the Commonwealth through its personal union. This will act as a strong buffer to the Baltic States and upward expansion by Austria.

    EU3_35.jpg

Shane is called to support rebels against the Von Habsburgs in Spain. He takes a stability hit at the cost of maintaining relations with the icy power. A war with Spain would beggar the country.

Seeing that my internet connection has literally died any time I have attempted to upload the next batch of screenshots, It will likely still be a few days before I will be updating. Sorry to any of those who have been paying attention.

In recent developments, Shane has largely stayed out of military affairs. Still he plots for territorial gain through diplomatic and colonial means. Belgian forces destroy Hainut whose Royal family beg for peace. The Ottoman wars still rage in the East, which what appears to be heading to a Russian Victory. Closer to Home, France stumbles madly through Italy and south Germany.

    EU3_1-11.jpg

Shane moves the focus of the nation to the Mid Altantic Colonies. This will increase trade and prestige in the area.

    EU3_2-10.jpg

In the spirit of the times, the colony is renamed Tyrsean (Tír Séan) or Land of Sean. The mid atlantic will seemingly be the focus of development for Tyrone for the foreseeable future.

    EU3_3-9.jpg

The peninsula at Florida is renamed Tirmhacha after the Irish Goddess.

(I NOW REALISE MY OVERSIGHT! I WILL FIX THESE MISTAKES OF NAMING)

    EU3_4-10.jpg

Hainut begs for mercy from Shane. Seeing as he has had little effect on the war, Shane makes white peace. Although the Belgian Crown are unhappy, they realise Shane's position in the conflict and pass on the issue.

    EU3_5-8.jpg

The colonial force is directed to the northern bays of America. They find vast un-colonised lands, ripe for the taking.

    EU3_6-8.jpg

Shane sends settlers to establish control of the area before another situation akin to the Swedish war can arise.

    EU3_7-8.jpg

The court makes positive gestures to several Italian states to try ease relations. Corsica is beseiged by rebels but will not grant access. Siena gladly enters a royal marriage

    EU3_8-7.jpg

The old ruler of Ferrara takes a turn for the worse and dies without a heir. This lucky event puts Shane on the throne. To sweeten the deal, the throne of Ferrara had inherited Modena upon its kings death.

    EU3_9-7.jpg

In Aachen, Ludwig Philipp O'Neill comes to the throne of the Heir-less monarchy. Take that Von Habsburgs!

    EU3_10-8.jpg

As another Advisor dies, Shane reshuffles his advisers in the court, gaining the great skill of 2 men.

    EU3_11-7.jpg

A quick look at America reveals a Startling area which Tyrone covers. In 50 years this will become cores and then the fun will truly begin.

    EU3_12-6.jpg

Belgium finally takes Hainut from their cousins. Shane hosts a huge feast for his Flemish allies. A quick look reveals the Spanish have nearly been driven from the Netherlands, as Gelre occupies their remaining provinces.

    EU3_13-6.jpg

The court receives a huge surge in discoveries of foreign lands, however they neither have the manpower of money to utilise them.

    EU3_14-4.jpg

Shane decides it is time to unify the Gaelic clans. He orders his armies to prepare for war and sends his envoys to inform the O'Brien clan. Munster will fall to the Red Hand. Shane's force in Ireland nearly triples O'Brien in infantry alone, it will not be a hardly contested war.

    EU3_15-4.jpg

As Shane sends a overwhelming force to take Munster itself, O'Brien's armies strike into Connacht, hoping to rise up separatist sentiments among the clans. However after O'Connor's botched rebellions, they gain little support. Shane sends a secondary force back to Leinster to help secure its peasantry against O'Brien.
