His needling of Dunphy at the end was pretty good too.

Yeah, the last 15 mins it was like his own stand-up routine, really funny. He really should have his own TV show.

I was wondering does he actually pick the tune at 4.20 on Fri....they're usually great...Brass Connection etc....

The sound engineer on the show, Michael Quilligan, picks the songs.

    Don't feed the gondolas

Actually, something I've wondered when hearing the name on Newstalk - there was a Michael Quilligan appeared on Challenging Times in the 90s (can't remember what college), is it the same one?

Don't forget Good Grief Moncrieff and he used to present The End as well.

Sean is good fun... he keeps my day sane at least. He needs a longer movies and booze section though... i find its too short.

Boovies and mooze is excellent, even better when it's an outside broadcast.

I could have sworn Sean was fairly tipsy at that outside broadcast for Movies & Booze on Friday in Cork! Great show, best on Irish radio methinks

Its a great show and the range of subjects they cover is terriific, moncrieff is an articulate and engaging host, my only criticism is his inability to get through a single sentence without 20 eh eh eh eh's , its so bloody distracting, how has nobody tackled him on it?

    It's a great show, alright...

...except at least once in every show they insist on interviewing an American author about a book on a rather obscure and not very relevant subject.

I guess the researchers spend a lot of time on Amazon.com looking for authors with books to plug, no matter how obscure the subject matter. And poor Sean does his best to sound interested, but in some cases it's a stretch for any of us to be interested.

He'd be rat-ársed by the end of the show.

Actually, that might make for some very interesting listening. ;)

it's pretty simple. you wouldn't listen to him if he didn't engage you.

Agreed but it would be that much better if he didnt inject dozens of eh's into each sentence.

One for Moncrieff Bingo if there is such a thing on this thread.

Moncrieff - "Good afternoon", ( to caller from America).

Caller from America - "Its morning here".

    Happens nearly every time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,904 ✭✭✭leakyboots

It could be an anti-stammer technique

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,936 ✭✭✭ballsymchugh

it's a pity they don't podcast the movies and booze section.
all the regular stuff should be podcasted, like history on tuesdays (which sometimes is), food on thursdays, as well as movies and booze.
parenting, maybe not for a while!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,936 ✭✭✭ballsymchugh

since there's talk of splitting the newstalk thread, may as well bump this.

there's such a massive difference in the parenting experts on wednesdays. niamh hannon is mad for the softly softly, explain to the kid that they've done something wrong, make sure they understand etc, while david carey is great for the 'just say no!' approach.
