    Hi everyone!

Start to look around for insurance for my soon-delivered Japanese car ( my current insurer don't insure imports).
Found problem - only few companies or crazy price 1500-2000e.
I'm 40 y. o. women - not high risk customer, my last insurance was 300e would agree for 500-700 for new...

Anyone found something reasonable in a last year? Which companies or brokers?

There is a company called Octane which deal with non standard risk policies, they are underwritten by Prestige but I think you need to go through a broker, give a broker a call and ask them about Octane insurance, worth a shot.

What type of car is it?

Insurance companies doesn't like jap imports.
    Does the car have immobiliser/security?

It looks like this year insurance companies likes only BIG money.
I was refused insurance on my old car as its over 15 y.o. which supposed to be using for next 2 month, till new car delivered and registered.

I cant afford to go and buy brand new car for 30000 and sell it in 2 years for 10000.

I think if you are insured with a company they are not legally allowed to refuse to renew cover just because of the age of car.

At 2009, you should not have too much trouble insuring the new car, ring around and dont use online application forms is my advise, my last 3 cars were Japanese imports, my current one is over 18 years old.

    I ring today 12 companies...Only 3 gave quotes for 1200-1500 e.
And only one gave quote for 97 Polo... ( 600e)

Do you have over 5 years NCB?
the price they gave you is more expensive than what I am paying for a 1997 2.5L Turbo. Try some brokers.

6 years no claim bonus... and small car 1.4, no commuting, low millage a year, I'm 40 - not high risk conditions .
I've always had 250-450 e in last 8 years. Just something crazy going on...

Briton insurance in Donegal will cover Jap imports for younger drivers.
I was insured with them for two years and would certainly recommend!

They're full of crap on all their products. Used to advertise on the buses a little while ago for a 2 year policy for €500. Yeah right :)

Btw, Briton quotes me me 962 for a 2008 Honda Fit, when AA quoted 704 for the same package of Comprehensive with Full NCB protection!

Did a bit of digging: Octane underwriting is a subsidiary of Prestige Holdings

Got onto Abbey insurance (broker) on 0494371505 and they gave me 0494371830 which is Prestige/Octane but Prestige/Octane do not deal directly with the public and referred me back to Abbey :)

    Hope this helps.
