Did enough to win the first round I feel.

Close round. Maybe Cathal sneaks it for controlling for a while, Umalatov much better standing up though.

McGregor just doesn't knock them out he picks the round, Pendred just doesn't throw a punch he tells his opponent it's coming a week in advance.

    Cathal's just so predictable.

MMAJunkie gave round 1 to Cathal as well.

Sloppy by Pendred. Gave away that round and needs to win the last, its got to be 1-1 now. Didnt take any attention to what his corner told him to do and persisted with the telegraphed punches and trying to get the takedown. Needs to get a few takedowns in here to secure the round or land a few headkicks. If he sticks at it the way he is he will be in trouble.

Try mma junkie then, round by round description

Pendred could do with 6 months in a boxing club, his movement looked better at the beginning of the match when he was fresh but now he's tired it's gone to flat footed ****e, it needs to become second nature.

    19-19 though.

    1 round apiece you'd think.

A round a piece here imo.

He's so awkward in his striking and it's clear that he doesn't really have any confidence in it. He needs to really focus on improving his stand up or he won't go far in the ufc unfortunately.

Cathal is the more aggressive fighter here. Barring a disaster he takes this by decision.

    Jesus he's awful

2 more fights like that and that'll be the end of that ufc contract.

No stand up game at all, can't take him down and now he's gassed and clueless

    Sparring match 29-28 Umalatov.

    That was awful to watch

    Fairly poor performance from Pendred.

If he can't improve his boxing and approach, he'll be cut quickly.

Horrible fight. Draw wouldn't surprise me.

Christ that was bad. He might have won it, looks like a rugby player trying to fight though. Very predictable and sloppy.

Born in Boston, he can be American until he starts fighting like McGregor.

UFC Fight Night 53 results: Cathal Pendred def. Gasan Umalatov via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Happy enough the fight ended the way I called it but that performance was pretty poor. He never changed it up a level between rounds and his stand up is very sloppy and unconvincing. Definitely the more attacking fighter in the third round and thats pretty much what saved his ass but on another day letting it go to the judges like that it could have seen him easily get the loss.

Pendred isn't good enough for the UFC. He's slow, unexciting, and doesn't display a lot of skill. I hate having this opinion.

I don't like knocking irish fighters but that was a poor performance. If that was against a higher calibre fighter then I doubt Cathal would've made it out of the first round. I really hope he improves his game next time.

    Correct decision, disgraceful performance..

Lucky. Surely all of them stuffed takedowns scored something for Umalatov? He was on top standing up as well. All Cathal did was push the pace.

He got knocked on his pants with a punch and got the worst of most exchanges in a dreary contest. Lucky to win but not exactly highway robbery. No sympathy for the other guy who was holding back big style.
