Wow, 3 lovely watches. Ive looked at the Stowa and Damasko watches before and they are on my list to get at some stage. The time factors stuff is really highly regarded. Ive looked at eddies offerings before but I just havent managed to pull the trigger and get one yet.

This is the Vostok Europe Rocket N1 NH25.
I am aware that this watch is quite expensive for a movement that is used in Seiko 5s and if I ever want to sell it then I would probably take quite a hit on it, but I just fell in love with it when I saw it. I'm not quite sure why they are celebrating a failure, I'm also not sure why a watch commemorating a rocket is a dive watch but there ya go.

It's a bit of a beast at 46mm it's also I think the heaviest watch I own here is a side view of the chunky case

The crystal on this is also 4.5mm thick, I tried to get a picture that showed this, but I couldn't. I was a little disappointed that there was no literature about the N1 rocket but overall really love the watch.

Quite pleased with this catch. Issued in small numbers to Bundeswehr ISAF troops in Afghanistan. Titanium case with a sapphire crystal and and a quartz Miyota movement.

How did you buy it CB?

Came up as an EBay auction on Sunday morning with an obscure title which, thankfully, was captured by one of my saved searches. I offered a cash sum to end the auction which was accepted; this morning I learnt that the owner picked it up in a bundle at a car boot sale. I'm all made up because I've picked up something from my wish list at approximately half what they go for on MWR and the seller must have made a few bob so win-win. I was hoping to, after the prize was safely in my possession, learn of a nice story to go behind its' acquisition but I suppose you can't have everything.

I love stories like that. I hate you CB for being the one with the story and the watch*grumble*, but I still love stories like that. :D Sweet find. Especially on eprey.

Nice one Homer, big TX fan myself, though all my purchases were from ebay - $150 is an absolute steal!

Nice purchases Homer, does your seller have an online store or will us minions have to resort to E-bay?

It's actually a bricks and mortar store on Long Island outside of New York. My brother lives nearby and mailed me to say that they still had plenty of stock at the clearance price. They don't have a website unfortunately so I had to call them and get a list of all the models they had in stock, cross reference with the TX website and then mail my brother the two I wanted and he picked them up!

First of all, some great customer service from Stowa, Fedex can never find my house, It was came a day earlier than I expected so by the time I rang up to leave a phone number it was too late to get the message to the driver. As a result of this there was a failed delivery yesterday, I got an email from Stowa this morning, telling me that they rang FedEx and they were told the delivery failed, and gave me a number to contact Fedex from.

    Anywho, on to the watch

With the lack of the blued hands I wasn't too sure about whether or not to buy it, even as I was opening it I was a little prepared to be disappointed but fell in love with it straight away. First time I have had a deployment clasp on a leather strap, and first croco strap as well

I got one of these for my Damasko - it was ok, but I was quite underwhelmed considering how much it cost me. I wasn't expecting a strap that would look tired and worn after only about 50 days wear.

I think that his straps are always praised to high heaven on TZ-UK because he posts there. Nobody says anything bad about them, his pals praise them, and you end up with this sort of group-think were it's received wisdom that they are great - until you get your hands on one.

It's the exact same thing that has stopped me ever buying one of Eddie Platts' watches - I'd be afraid that the rave reviews are part of the same wisdom.

    Sorry for going O/T!

I had a PRS 20 (Eddie Platts' PAM homage) for about 2 days before I sold it. I really didn't like it at all, but it did seem to be reasonably well made. Still wouldn't buy any of his other models though. Like you, the hype makes me suspicious.

This is interesting guys - I post there too under the moniker Zenmonk, but like yerselves I am suspicious of the luv in for precista and Damasko watches. Just because some of the lads know Eddie they are a bit in awe of his stuff when at the end of the day it is just inexpensive homage watches.
In fairness the Fifty Fathoms knock off looks nice but it is a knock off , the Italian or Panerai knock off never did it for me personally. Just don't get the devotion. Are they any better than for instance Steinhart? A brand that receives a fiar bit of flak there btw.
Damasko are nice enough looking watches and are building in house movements so to me are a big step up.
What I also don't like about TZUK is Eddie's anti Bremont interjections. Fair enough as a poster he's entitled to his opinion but as a "competitor" and especially a site moderator maybe a bit of restraint would be advised especially when Bremont and Precista are not comparable in quality.
Recently I started a thread there about the Supermarine as it is a fine looking piece and I am considering a purchase and Eddie came in with some sort of put down of the brand that I don't actually understand. His cronies follow suit and suddenly rather than discussing a watch it is a personal vendetta against two guys who are making decent watches and a go at things.

This should belong to a "Bashing the TZUK" thread, but here's my 2 cents on this. I was put off posting and even visiting the said site because of the attitude of the owner and the few "know-it-all" regular posters. It's all fine if you have something to say that they agree on and God forbid you bring a subject they dislike because they'll be on your case like a rash!

I think I'll stick with this forum and Watchuseek, which are way more friendly and with tones of information even on the "unapproved" brands.

What annoys me about the place is that for a forum of so-called watch lovers, if it ain't Rolex, Sinn, Panerai or Omega, they don't want to know about it.

    mmmm

Am a member on TZ also, and do find them very elitist

Was looking at a watch for sale, no expensive, would only sell to UK person

I would have bought it there and then...but felt a bit ..."you're not in our gang type thing"

Thought it was just me...but obviously not

    Anyway...my 0.02c

Not a fan of the TZUK forum and its attitude and I don't post there.

I did buy one of his watches, not because of any rave review on the forum but because I liked the way it looked. I was quite happy with the quality of the item for the price.

I bought my Damasko directly from Damasko, the 12 month wait was well worth it!
