Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

sick leave and doctors certs

    Have noticed a fair bit of sick leave around my area at the moment and I am just wondering are the teachers that are out sick (the pattern is usually 2 days) filling in the 10 or 12 page document/cert signed by the doctor.I have my doubts that they are.Any views on this?

    You only need a regular cert if u want certified sick leave for up to 3 days, anything more than that requires the longer one, I forget what's it's called, the doctor will give it to you and school secretary should post it for you!

    How could you possibly know that?

    If it's certified sick leave then they will have to fill it out, if it's uncertified they won't have been to the doctor in the first place so it's unnecessary.

    Bit of a b***S though if you have to cover/teach for the other teacher if they are genuinely taking the mick. We had one like that yonks ago who was always sick the same time of year.... every year (usually around orals/mocks time!!) the other teachers were fair annoyed that it would always fall on their heads to pick up the slack.

    But I suppose you don't really know what the nature of the illness is though so you'd have to err on the side of trust!

    I don't know how a teacher could possibly abuse sick-leave under the new sick-leave conditions.

    Given that we can only have 7 uncertified sick days in the year, I can't imagine any teacher being able to take regular uncertified sick leave. Certainly not under the terms of sick leave provision as they are now.

    7 uncertified in TWO years! Definitely wouldn't be able to abuse that!

    How many certified days a year are we permitted? Leaving aside 'critical illness'- just the regular doctor Certs

    12 weeks in a rolling 4 year period.
    It's counted back 4 years.
