I'm coming on in dire need for my father. He was widowed 21 years ago now & is lonely.

Is there anywhere left for the over 50s to socialise? He lives in a very rural area but is in Dublin frequently and looking for somewhere to go to socialise with his own age group. The pub scene in Dublin can be very hit & miss for all age groups so if someone can recommend a decent place -north/south side I would be so grateful.

Also if anyone knows of anything on New Years Eve that would be wonderful too.

Have a look at MeetUp.com for Dublin. Lots of groups for over-40s and 50s, lots of groups for all ages.

I think it depends on what subjects he is interested in and also age group. Does he like socialising like tea-dances, or travel, how about hobbies, what about playing whist or bridge, Toastmasters, courses, clubs, sports, history or heritage groups? Would he be interested in doing volunteer work? I've met several of my friends at educational courses. I do understand that often women find it easier to make friends than men. There was another post like yours here a while back, if I can find it I'll add it later.
