    Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice about group singing classes. Has anyone ever done any, and are they any good? I play a bit of guitar and recently have discovered a love of singing (I used to be mad about good guitar driven pop/hard rock music but now I only want to sing old stuff like the Everly Brothers and any of those old school 50s/60s songs with great harmonies - they blow my mind!). I am quite shy, well initially anyways, and normally not good in groups but I know this would be right up my alley. Will I actually get to sing individually in the class or is mostly group singing like a choir? I have an okay voice but I think I can improve it with a bit of work. So would my voice improve doing a group class or should I think of private tuition for that? My main motivation though is just to have some fun singing :).

Thanks a lot for your help.

I did a group singing class in Walton's a few years back, and absolutely adored it. It was a ten-week class; we sang as a group for the first few weeks, then we sang individually by ourselves, then we worked on harmonies, etc. The final class was a mini-concert and we were allowed pick whatever solo song we wanted and the teacher helped us with it. I found it really great. So much so that I ended up taking one-on-one lessons afterwards!

The group class was nice because we were all equal when we started, and it didn't matter how good or not so good we were, the teacher made no difference, and neither did anyone else in the class. It was a really relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

Cool. Exactly what I wanted to hear to be honest :). I checked waltons website and they have a group singing class for the month of July, so it'll be a nice taster. Deffo gonna do it.

    Thanks for the info.
