I'm glad to see that Listowel Council finally collected enough tokens for the electricity meter, and has now turned on the bridge lights.:pac:

Very serious incident in listowel housing estate across from ALDI early this morning. Man was stabbed in the throat at a house and had to make hes way to a neighbours house for help.

Forensics team have the house cordened off all day and are still present at the house! From what i hear he is not a local man!

^Just read about that. Hope they catch the low life who did it. The fella is lucky to be alive!

2 squad cars escorted the ambulance to get him to hospital!

Just proves once again how important the ambulance base in the local hospital is!

You would have to wonder what he was doing between being stabbed at 6am and calling to the neighbour at 12.30 the following afternoon?

Anyway it seems he is now out of danger, kind of worrying that there is someone around the town that has a tendency for sticking 7 inch knives in peoples throats!

Raging fire on top of Ballygrennan hill with the last 3 hours, fire brigade still battling it. I can see it from my house in the middle of town.

I just hope its not residential!

Seems it was just a shed, thankfully!

I hope the owner had it insured, as well as the hay that I heard was inside it.

Anybody know if there's a cycling club in Listowel? If so, is it all road cycling or do they do mountainbiking also?

What's happened to all of those entertaining folks that used to post on here? Are there enough left here to organise a search-party?

Did you have any luck with this? I took a spin around the fire station today but didn't see any trees

I think what has happened is that many of the posters now log on to the other site of Listowel interest (the name of which cannot be mentioned here apparently)instead of to Boards to find items of interest about our home town.

Sorry I totally forgot to get back to you until now,I was told from an ex councilor that it would probably be there after little Christmas "still no sigh of the skip"

'Tis a great pity that the other Listowel connection's URL cannot be posted or mentioned here.
    Why not?.

I went back to the very first post on the Listowel Thread from 2005. Chain reaction wanted to know what is going on in Listowel. I cannot see any harm if that information comes from a blog or any other source. It is giving information about "what's up in Listowel these days."

Judging by the number of people who look at the Listowel Thread, the Listowel diaspora are interested in the town.

I have long participated in this thread ( & I am also a member of the blog in question.)

As I see it: This thread is hosted by Boards.ie and we are all ' stakeholders ' in it as it provides each of us members with current news of general interest pertaining to Listowel. Subject to Boards.ie rules & regulations, we can all of us post to it wharever we want---up-to-a-point. The blog is owned personally by its owner and its postings are dictated by its owner's interests, though we, if logged-in members, may comment.

I think I may speak for my late brother, " SandHillRoad ", who, together with " CherryTree ", the pair of them were largely responsible, in early times, in answer to the question: ' So, what's up in Listowel these days ? ' posted relevant and inticing items about Listowel, which caused most of today's participants to keep coming back.
Many of us came later to this thread---and stayed ( though oftentimes between longish periods of truancy)---as it gave to each of us a reason to remember our home town & keep up-to-date from varying distances with the happenings there ( with pictures, yet!).

It still serves that purpose & with the Listowel-focused informative postings, pics, videoa & quizzes ( TY/thank you, Boroman) will, fervently hoped, intice us and others yet to come to continue our checking in here.

I think that the "blogger" assumes that a vindictive poster complained to the Boards hierarchy about the links appearing in posts, and I don't think that anyone did complain. The mods, acting on the Boards guidelines, decided to mention that it wasn't on.

The "blogger" would have been better off asking on the help desk ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=30 ) what they could put in their posts in respect of the listowelconnection site, instead of just giving up and walking away.

I don't even know whether the site is actually a blog, even though it seems to be described as such.

Although I've been here since 2001, I don't exactly know the rules on this.:o

I am including here the text of my reprimand from the moderator of The Listowel Thread.
    03 10 2011
“OK that's it, that is the last link to your blog Cherry Tree, its non profit so I have allowed the links to remain, but its still advertising, so please refrain from posting any more links to it.”

    Again on the same day
“Just to clarify, a number of different people reported the numerous blog links, as it is against boards rules that people should advertise, even their own blogs. I have allowed the links that are posted already to remain, as it is non-profit. I simply requested that no more links would be posted. Interested people can still access the blog via the links that are already posted.

I am not going to be specific about who reported what, there is nothing to say that they are even regular posters on this thread. Please don't blow this out of proportion! “

I, Cherry Tree, aka listowelconnection “the blogger” have no grudge against the moderator or anyone else on this forum. I have simply outgrown it. I posted photographs and local news here for years and I enjoyed the buzz I got from sharing news and happenings. I now do the same on a bigger scale in another place on the WWW.
As Béal Bocht points out, on a blog I have my own space and I’m answerable to no one. I can write at length and include photos and links and I can advertise all I want.
I miss the cut and thrust of the interaction with other Boards members. I do check in regularly and I wish everyone who posts on the thread and who reads it nothing but the best.
