By the time it launches the 3DS will be 2 1/2 years in to it's run, it needs this title.

The DS got Gen 4, Gen 2 remakes and 2 Gen 5s, I'd say it's had more than it's fill :)

And lopbunny too. Possibly the only male pokemon to undergo a sex change when it evolves :P

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the new eevee is going to be a dragon type.

I reckon these will be the games that finally result in me caving in and buying a 3DS. Hopefully over the summer months, there'll be price reductions on the original with something like introductions of even more colours/editions etc.

If I can pick Street Fighter and the upcoming Castlevania game on the cheap as well, I will be very happy indeed! :D

I felt the same way, but then I got one and I love it. I'm currently playing Skylanders. It's like Pokémon but you get little toys too :P

    http://www.examiner.com/article/pokemon-x-and-pokemon-y-may-be-getting-two-new-types-according-to-report

New types. No, I don't think "light" type will be real. but sound type seems very plausible, especially with the sound moves in Gen5.

Sylveon, brand new eevee, brand new type? I like the idea XD

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Wobbuffet

I'd take that story with a pinch of salt for now. That chart seems very suspicious to me. While I would understand retconning Pokemon like Ampharos and Chimecho to add a dual typing similar to Magnemite's Steel Type in Gen II, I can't see them completely changing the typing of Pokemon like Exploud. And oddly why is Volbeat getting a new type but not Illumise?

And if you trace the origins of the article, the original story is from 4chan so not the most trusted source

Until there's a solid announcement from Nintendo, I'm not buying into it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

oh, yeah. I'm not saying I trust it. But it would be a nice change, I think anyway.

Light seems more plausible than sound, IMO.

Light fits in, in that it would contrast "dark". Sound would be a very odd fit. Those Pokémon specialise in.... "making noise"? Sounds crappy (as a whole type), and doesn't fit well with others.

Light on the other hand fits in just as well as dark does. Dark is mostly sort of "evil", since lots of the moves have some sort of underhandedness to them. There are lots of Pokémon that are the opposite and love to help others, Chansey family being the obvious example.

But I'm calling BS on that article, cause I don't think GameFreak would introduce a type whose name is the opposite of another, yet give it a description which isn't (since "Dark" refers to evil as evidenced by JP name, while that article makes "Light" refer to luminance etc.)

I wouldn't mind both being introduced, but if they introduce only one, it better not be sound. :P

They can merge rock and ground if they need space, I always get them mixed up ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

lol, yeah I always get rock and ground confused too XD

Most people argue against the light, stating it's psychic, or pokemon that aren't 'evil' are normal.
Idk, stating evil/dark as a type always seemed odd to me, seeing as technically, it's more a state of being than a physical attribute. (ie any pokemon could be evil). But I suppose them changing that is unlikely.

Yeah, I remember I had that with rock and ground too. Cause the only rock types that weren't part ground in Gen 1 were the fossils, I was surprised that Sudowoodo wasn't immune to electric attacks in Gen 2 (I was like 9 or 10 at the time, so I didn't get it :P)

I remember getting caught with Sudowoodo before. My Graveler was gone and a Megneton was destroying me. Sent out Sudowoodo assuming he was immune and thinking I'll only have to worry about Sonicboom. The language was biblical when one Thunderbolt took him out. Have never used Sudowoodo since. I hold grudges like that :pac:

I never remember if a Pokémon is Rock or Ground, I won't even think I know I'll just think "Yeah, some brown coloured type, whatever. Give it a go. Be grand"

I'd like a new type or two, I'd just be really disappointed if there's only one and that one happens to be sound. If sound is one of several new types, I don't really care.

Hard to tell whether they'd do it though. The long history of the current 17 could rationalise either: leave them alone due to how well-established current list is, or introduce new types to refresh the games.

    I'd prefer the latter.

I'm guessing, since everything about Pokemon X & Y is new, that they are going to introduce Sylveon as a new type. I think it's plausible as there were many new types introduced in previous gens.

What about, for example, Light or Fairy Type? We have dark type already, and if there WAS a light type, this could make many new types of grass, bug and flying type pokemon, with Light moves.

Also I know Fairy sounds ridiculous, but already Clefairy and Snubbul are deemed as "Fairy" Type. Plus, Sylveon's alter names in Japanese and French both include "Nymph", like a little woodland fairy.

I guess people are still considering it could be Flying, or Ground type, but realistically, it's form doesnt suggest any of these. I know it's a bit presumptuous of me to dismiss this, but i truly don't think it's ground. Perhaps with it's ribbons and bows, I don't know, it could fly? But i don't think so.

All in all, I think the Pokemon team are starting something new, a shock factor, and with a new eevelotion, an entirely new pokemon type is possible.

On another note, any ideas what types the new Legendaries are? :P

Not really, there were 2 new types brought in since gen 1, both were in Gen 2 and were brought in to help counter the very powerful psychic type, as only psychic resisted psychic in 1. (Unless you count the Shadow pokemon in the gamecube games).

I'm not saying it's impossible to think that they'd bring in a new type, and maybe they have few ideas of what to do with the game without bringing in a new type, but until I get an official announcement I'm a bit sceptical.

For the legendary types, I get the feeling that Yveltal might be Dark/Flying, it has a sort of a dark, ominous appearance anyway. Xerneas has me thinking Grass, and if there is a new light type it would probably have it too, being the legendary.

That's true, I forgot they only added them in Gold and Silver.
I just feel that there is going to be some sort of major change, a whole new Gen different from ALL the rest must bring something like this.
I know you're saying that you don't doubt there will be a new type, taking it from your angle that types haven't been added in a while - it's a long time coming then right?

Yeah it seems dark and flying seems right, people are saying fire but that's just because it's red, and it looks more like an energy rather than fire. I'd say Xerneas grass/ psychic. (I don't think they'd make only one mascot a new type, people would get pissed)

Maybe they will keep them both single types?? Yvetal perhaps dark, Xerneas psychic?

I don't like these baby Pokémon when in the last game their evolved forms were popping out of the egg at lv1.
    WHY NO EVOLVE?!

I don't like that Mewtwo. Though it does kinda remind me of Frieza from Dragonball Z now.

    Why mess with Mewtwo?

I hate pre-evolutions altogether. They dont make sense in regards the story (unless it changed in the later Gens) of Pokemon being discovered. Pikachu for example, how the hell was it never noticed that he was an evolved form?

Maybe I'm just getting old :pac:
