Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    the 1st of July according to this tender.

    Surely all paper tickets from this date will now be either loaded onto a leap card or scanned on the leap card machines.

    This is an ongoing process, but the final push has started. All paper magnetic tickets will be gone soon and replaced by Leap equivalent. Marketing campaign to highlight it has already begun.

    Nitelink tickets aren't magnetic anymore,was funny seeing every drunk persons look of utter confusion when instructed to scan it like you would a Leap card.

    Why is the removal of them up to tender by an external company though? Does DB not have the ability in house to do this?

    Do you think that they have plenty of staff sitting around doing nothing to do it?

    Maintenance would have all their usual responsibilities to look after without having to remove nearly 1,000 ticket machines as well.

    How long does it take to unbolt it and throw it in a corner...whenever they're getting checked/cleaned at night..even so why can't the removal be done over a period of time to facilitate it.

    It's not like they have to be there one day and gone the next.

    It would still require additional staff as maintenance staff have their own jobs to do.

    Thats utter madness, how a maintenance guy can't take 2 minutes to undo a couple of bolts without having to outsource it is ridiculous.

    Actually not as simple as it looks

    1. Remove the MCV itself, 4 bolts
    2. Remove the bracket from the support
    3. Remove the cabling between the MCV and TGX150
    4. Plug the hole in the poll where the MCV cabling came from
    5. Possibly relocate the smartcard reader to the MCV position (its a bit high for children)
    6. Remove any power supply cabling etc

    Because as above it is far more complicated than just unscrewing a few bolts.

    The power supply to the TGX machine would have to also be isolated.

    Hardly something that can be done in a few spare minutes.

    Hardly something outsiders can do in a few minutes either no? If the power supply has to be isolated does the bus have to be taken into the shed/off service anyway?

    I see that the mag stripe readers are not invariably displaying "Out of service".

    They were turned over on 1st July, or at least were supposed to be. Drivers got a memo stating this and to take any pre-validated tickets as flash passes until their expiration. Anybody with magnetic tickets that aren't validated will have to exchange them.

    Gradually they're being removed, and the smart card reader moved into a better position.

    I wouldn't call it better, especially not on the few VG's I've been on with them moved where they are more awkward to get to especially when they're facing a slightly different direction too almost directly at the doors.

    Maybe they were a touch high before but they are far too low now.

    All and any updated modification work to be carried out on all Dublin Bus vehicles, would be well within the mechanical / electrical capability of every Dublin Bus mechanic. The issue is overtime, eg:( Foremen receive 7.5 hrs overtime each week, Labours receive 8.0 hrs each week and Mechanics receive 1.0 each week. Now do the maths.
