anyone watch this last night, I thought it had potential and will watch it when it airs properly to see how they flesh it out
Shame we didn't get to see Billy Piper's character, anyone recognise any of the locations?

Watched it last night. Good but not great. Will watch ep 2 though as I reckon once the characters have been fleshed out it will be more enjoyable.

A grand little waste of time. Dalton and Green deserve awards for mostly keeping a straight face.

‘Penny Dreadful’ Preview: A Divine Gift, and a Dreadful Curse (Exclusive Video)
    The pains of being different

“To be different: Is that not a divine gift?” asks one of the lead characters in the latest trailer for Showtime's “Penny Dreadful.”

“Is that not a dreadful curse?” replies another.

The characters in the Showtime Victorian monster drama are Dorian Grey (Reeve Carney), a libertine who seemingly doesn't age, and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), who is looking for her own way to cheat death. They join an assembly of characters, both new and plucked from Victorian, who occupy 1891 London.

The trailer plays up the romantic elements of the show, including Grey and Ives’ first meeting

Without giving much away/hopefully avoiding spoilers.

    Ep2

    The plot thickens.

Billie Piper's character gets introduced but shows little depth, yet, and various characters start interwinning incl Dorian Gray. Vanessa Ives is interesting in the séance pointing to something not right afoot with Sir Malcolm. Frankenstein's baby starts to grow up and show signs of remembering his past life, but the end scene is quite a wtf.

Really enjoying this so far. Acting, production and direction are all top notch. Interested to see if it maintains its quality with the director change for episodes 3 and 4.

Just watched the first one now, liked it, loved the buildup in the final scene, didn't see the reveal coming at all.

Have the first couple of episodes recorded. Someone please tell me that Billie Piper doesn't do an Orish accent.

Oh Lord, I like the idea behind the series but if her accent is as bad as I fear I won't be watching. It doesn't help that I'm not a fan of her at the best of times.

Is this going to be a Superheroes mix-match?.....

Just watched it there, Vanessa's spiel to "Bill Cody" (can't remember his name) was almost delivered exactly the same as she did to James Bond on the train in Casino Royale.....

Bad script or just the same delivery, meh, will give it another go....

I saw "Mrs Bishop" though and it looked a little like the Ripper Street set at times...

    Just watched Episode 1&2.

Interesting but plenty of WTF moments. Will keep tabs to see how it develops. Normally not overly interested in horror stuff...so might not stick with it.

The intertwining of various characters and mythical legends gives it a good premise.

'Penny Dreadful': Timothy Dalton On The Odd Moment While Filming The Seance with VIDEO
Finding Mina seems to be the central driving force of the show, but when Access asked how complex Sir Malcolm’s storyline is beyond his missing daughter, Dalton hinted that the world of “Penny Dreadful” will continue to grow and expand.

“The spine of this first series is that quest, but it’s not quite as straightforward as it might seem,” Dalton said. “I mean, you’ve already had a clue because you know he’s searching for her in a — in what Vanessa calls a demimonde, and what I call the space between living and death — the undead

Sir Malcolm and Vanessa’s relationship is still very mysterious ; she too is on a quest of her own, and it’s only at this moment in time that both these stories have meshed, because we both need to get my daughter Mina.”

I enjoyed episodes 1 and 2. I believe the new one is airing as I type. Looks like it could be good though it's a little early to cast judgment. It certainly looks great!

I really enjoyed the third episode. I'm reading Dracula at the moment so it's interesting to see which character are stand ins for the book characters and how it will all fit together.

Watched the first episode and have the second episode recorded - definitely has potential.

Think they were filming in Marlay Park last summer. The fair ground show in the first episode was filmed behind the main house, I think. I recall the formal gardens there were closed for a few days also, but I've only seen the first episode. Will be interesting to see what shows up.

They were filming all over the city. The area around Dame Lane was used for a few days. They shot interiors in the Stags Head for a half day. Look closely at the area around there and you'll still see some remnants from the shoot - ie. "Guns and Jewellery Traded Here" on the window of Sams barbers and an antique letterbox inside the Stags.

Some scenes were shot in Henrietta Street (used in Ripper Street as well). The interior of the 'Explorers' Club' is the dining hall in the King's Inns.

Beautifully shot and a half interesting idea. Awful script though, and seems to be trying to do way too much as a story.
